Seal release in Hampton Bays

Lenny, a rescued yearling gray seal, was released back into the wild on Saturday afternoon, April 17,  under the Ponquogue Bridge in Hampton Bays. Lenny was rescued by the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation on January 9 near Two-Mile Hollow Road in East Hampton after a local beach walker called its 24-hour hotline, (631) 369-9829, to report the stranded seal. He was lethargic, inactive and had a swollen jaw and flipper. After a 13-week stay at the Riverhead Foundation’s facilities in Riverhead, he was healthy enough for release.
