Southampton Town bracing for stingy 2011 budget

Let me translate the first paragraph of this story: taxes down, payrolls up and more payroll looking to be added. that means - YOUR PAY DOWN, THEIR PAY UP. There is an OUTFLOW problem, not an INCOME deficiency. These hacks running this town need to stop treating this like a status symbol and start running this like a darn business. this is part of the whole ''time to sacrifice'' message from on high, while the duds who ride the wave of rich benefits and long smoking breaks on our backs. every employer in this town is at historical staffing lows, but our bloated group of duds wants to expand. funny thing is, they have brainwashed a bunch of zombies into thinking that paying more taxes is the answer. " Sep 26, 10 7:48 AM

nice use of fulminating. now, i don't know about all that nonsense but when services are cut and property assessments increase for a time period that clearly saw a decrease in real estate values, it doesn't matter what ath or any political wannabe says. politicians don't hide from foil requests when they have nothing to hide. what you will see if you look closely is waste the likes of which you couldn't begin to imagine, salaries for part time jobs that would make you spit up and frivolous spending for pet projects and inside deals. accountablility in this town has gone out the door, because ''thats how we've always done it''. and until someone wants to come in here and fumigate, all this fulminating doesn't matter other than to let us vent and try to enlighten each other." Arts Harvest Southampton faces backlash from local merchants

what exactly is the purpose of putting racks of stuff made in china out on the sidewalk? does that help people walking on main street understand that there is a lot of other stuff made in china on the inside of the store for sale? there is nothing arts about that district at all and its rather confusing to people to try and say it is. Reluctant plea deal for Lester brothers

This is another example of overreach by a federal agency chock full of fat cat payola experts. I'm sure there's a burlap bag somewhere with enough unmarked 20s to satisfy any one of these dippity-do covered ''inspectors''. the only sin these guys committed was not knowing about the magic burlap bag. when the power hungry run everything from your airspace to the depths of the oceans and everything in between, what could we expect? Hampton Bays leads town in code enforcement calls

he'd be best to bring in the DEA. they can tell him how you have to go after the suppliers i.e. the slum landlords and unsavory business owners who willingly use illegal cheap labor to compete unfairly against those that so deeply want to do the right thing. this is about $$. the landlords that allow their houses to be cordoned off life outward bound army barracks are the enablers in this systemic top-to-bottom failure of our elected officials to carry out their duties and enforce the laws. mr. betts is in an unfair position of being the last line of defense with the least amount of resources." the problem here is that schools are supposed to teach accountability and responsibility. they failed on several fronts here. first, the adults or administration that allowed this kid through should be punished. not the darn kids who waited all summer to play and practiced in the hot sun to try and improve their skills. but just as expected, this so called school of higher learning punishes the children and everyone...so as to avoid addressing the topic of what happened. so, the kids get hurt, learn that everybody should take the blame so as to avoid placing it where it belongs. in related news, the united states has just fallen behind brazil in economic strength." Court dismisses Konrad's claims of defamation

konrad is batting 100%. she has run into the brick wall of reality with everyone of her frivolous cases. can someone please move to have her license taken away? was pretty sure this was impossible, but she makes lawyers look bad. being argumentative doesn't make one a good litigator. " Sep 27, 10 12:06 PM

hey ek, put the pen down, stop typing. its over. nobody's taste for anything is changing anywhere. annoying attorneys are a dime a dozen. when my grandfather was in westhampton care home, they told me that it is a common trait of the elderly to cling onto an idea and not let it go, no matter what. its actually common. think about your legacy, do you really want to become the local punchline to a poorly written gag?" Congressional race kicks off; candidates trade blows

I was there. There were about 70 people and Bishop's team were running around looking very anxious. Every camera angle is geared to make the crowd seem bigger than it really was, thus the up shot from behind the podium - you will notice just a smattering of folks looking for an extended lunch hour standing against a tarp on the side of the road. Beyond that, what they were looking for was nowhere to be found. No new ideas, no pride in the recent legislative "triumphs", no touting the voting record, no menion of healthcare, card-check, stimulus 1, stimulus 2, nancy pelosi, cap and tax, obama, soros, SEIU, Sillerman, immigration reform, taking over of GM, taking over the banking industry, no mention of any of it. Can you imagine all that work and not wanting it on your resume'? " Sep 29, 10 9:50 AM

I would also like to add that of those few in attendence, dozens were what we like to call ''Purple People Beaters'', namely the purple shirted members of the SEIU Service Employees International Union. They were in street clothes but pretty telling nonetheless." Sep 29, 10 9:55 AM

that approach didn't really help chris cox then and it's not going to help you now, and it is a pretty sad state of affairs when that's your strong point. can you name a damn thing that tim did, that actually worked the way it was supposed to that you are proud of. anything. and, it had to work, don't tell me about all the small business tax nonsense - that had absolutely no affect, measured by any benchmark - not to mention the take home pay of the actual small business owner. but let me give you this. company's were going to be outsourcing menial repetetive jobs to India with or without randy. so randy is what we call an entrepreneur. he made money by filling a need that existed. if that need didn't exist, he would not have been such an unbelievable success. now, the company's themselves outsourced, it was randy that provided a service to assist. correct? good. guess what. his policies are still better for my family and i than tim's. and, i'll be voting for him. you got anything else?" Sep 29, 10 5:30 PM

and what about being fitted into the position of, ahem, provost by the uber rich head of the institution is so honorable - and please don't say that tim is ''pro education'' that is the dumbest thing that any politician can call themself...but this institution whose cost increases have far exceeded that of healthcare. but we hear nothing about that, because the education unions are in the back pocket...right. have you seen the tuition of southampton college before the ''policies of the prior administration'' ran it into the motel 6 feet under? this was an overpriced, mismanaged pipe dream status symbol of a few who thought it would be fun to have concerts there and light up the windmill. i'll take the guy who has had a real job and had to turn a profit, cut costs and be efficient.

" Sep 29, 10 5:35 PM

so, forget that you think we are not on the brink of financial collapse now, but fine. how did he do that please." Sep 29, 10 9:18 PM

and would you look at how she tries to use class war fare to insinuate that it is inherently bad to be a billionnaire? timmy would have preferred to be one, but since that didn't work out, he hooked up with robert f.x. sillerman. this guy installed him as the provost and then paid for both of his kids college. so, if you can't be one, next best thing is to befriend one. and isn't that the way tim's policies have all worked out? he doesn't feel like paying for college (like the rest of us are saving up to do for our kids) so he gets a rich person to pay for it, then turns around and disparages rich people. how does that work and please explain tim's statements about not being beholden to the guy who bankrolls his entire life." unlike you i am happy to address your points, but i see where you get them from a review of the dem mid term talking points reveals "Republicans support outsourcing'' as a headline. This is base politics, take down the other guy, don't address policy differences. Fine, unfortunately reputable studies from the University of Chicago and several other independent studies show that outsourcing non core competency jobs actually result in a boon for the US! Yep. The money saved is invested in larger domestic payrolls. Check Microsoft and Oracle, who have greatly increased outsourcing as has Dell. 70,000 phone operators and salaried computer programers lost jobs between 1999 and 2003. Yes, 115,000 software engineers were hired at a greater payroll. For every $1.00 saved on oursourcing a job unit to India, the US benefits to the tune of $1.12-$1.14 and product quality improves because of the savings. Meanwhile, low paying jobs in India are replaced with regulated fair pay by US companies. Evolution costs folks jobs...the automobile put the horse drawn carriage folks in a pickle and robots/machines have put assembly line workers in a pickle. Its no different. You haven't seen a coal delivery man or an elevator operator around there parts recently either. But that isn't a political issue. We're waiting for you to resonate with something that is going to sway voters." Sep 30, 10 11:49 AM

hey, if you are simple enough to gauge who you are going to vote for by where they are from then you have bigger problems than your never ending "i am a victim" dialogue. but if i were you, i'd be more drawn to the guy who is spending his own money for a race that can only be won with huge $$...than a guy who thinks its fine to use your money and that of his wealthy pals who will then turn around and get their pound of flesh for those contributions. try someone who isn't beholden to any big sugar daddy. although you can probably identify with the guy who prefers a sugar daddy." Throne-Holst: No layoffs in 2011 tentative budget

nope. not possible, i'm calling shennanigans. you cannot claim that you've not cut any services or have any lay-offs, increase taxes by 2.4% and claim that the budget is up only .5%. doesn't add up at all. words like ''re-structure'', ''breaking off'' and ''redirecting'' need to be clarified by ath. a courtsey and an ''i feel really good" doesn't cut it."
