Southampton High School Student Will Not Return To School After Shotgun Arrest, District Says

An unfortunate incident all the way around. Should an example be made of the mistake made by this young man to deter others from doing something similar that shows such poor judgment? Perhaps. But we should also remember that a child's future is at stake here. And yes, a 17 year old is a child. " Oct 31, 11 1:12 PM

Mayor Says Southampton Village Supermarket Law Has Good Chance Of Passing, Despite Opposition

While the location may not be appropriate, depending upon traffic studies and the like, the objections based on our having more than enough grocery store choices are ridiculous. In a capitalist society, the consumer drives those choices. If the market owner believes there are sufficient customers out there and they want to compete with Waldbaums, Avanti and Schmidts they should be permitted to do so. I should bot be required to go to horrible Waldbaums, buy over the hill and overpriced produce at Schmidts or drive 20 minutes to Hampton Bays just because someone else thinks it's a good idea for me. The consumer should make the choices. " Jan 24, 12 3:30 PM

Southampton Village Supermarket Law Takes a Pummeling, May See Revisions

The fact is that there is not room at this site or any other I can think of within the Village for a supermarket like Stop & Shop or a King Kullen. Those stores certainly are not going to be able to use a site like this for a store because it's too small. And any place you could find in the village (on some highway) is going to have the same traffic issues everyone is mentioning. The spot in question can accommodate a smaller MARKET which is what this is. It is not a SUPERmarket because its not that large. What is wrong with something less than a huge King Kullen? Not everyone is going to be happy with this but not everyone will be happy with anything. I for one am strongly IN FAVOR of it." Feb 1, 12 1:59 PM

Tuckahoe Students Could Be Pulled From Westhampton Beach District If Merger Advances

Why doesn't the Westhampton school district foot the cost of keeping these students in its high school? Why on earth should that money come out of the Southampton district's budget, potentially negatively impacting current Southampton students. This way of thinking may be why Tuckahoe finds itself in its current financial situation." Jun 26, 13 3:19 PM

East End School Test Scores Drop, Reflecting Statewide Trend

You should check the data about WHBHS being academically superior to SHS. The SAT scores, ACT scores and AP scores are quite similar and, in some instances, SHS's are better. What do you base your assertion upon?

UPDATE: Second Arrest In Rape Investigation; Two 14-Year-Old Victims

If he was charged with rape why don't you report that he was arrested for rape, not for "having sex" with the 14 year old victim? There's a difference. " Jul 26, 14 2:58 PM

That's my point. It should have been reported as being arrested for rape, not that he was arrested for "having sex" with a 14 year old. We are in agreement.

Princess Diner Workers Were Sexually Harassed, Threatened With Deportation, Advocacy Group Says

How are we "lauding them [illegal immigrants] as something special" by arresting people who are both abusing them and breaking the laws of our country. I'm stunned by the lack of outrage expressed here against these business owners who are so greedy and disgusting. " Sep 25, 17 4:08 AM

Donations For Southampton Village Fourth Of July Parade Continue To Decrease, Causing Some Worry About Its Future

So much money could have been raised during the parade with some 2019-style donation/fund-raising methods — set up a text to donate number, a Venmo account for donations or any number of other methods. Ask our new young mayor for some ideas. There were a lot of people at the parade who could have taken out their phones and easily donated. If each person gave an average of $5 much would have been raised. Instead the entire opportunity was lost. I saw two donation carts whipping down the street. What is the point of that? Sending out letters asking for donations is a dying method. As far as I could see there was no way to donate on the spot and there easily I could have been. " Jul 9, 19 8:24 PM

Southampton Village May Require Building Owners To Cover Windows If Stores Remain Vacant

What is with these negative comments? The Village looks pathetic with so many store windows filled with nothing but “for lease” signs. This proposal is obviously not intended to cure the underlying problem but rather to improve the look of the Village in the interim. The suggestion that this proposal will take the place of real work to address the underlying problems is absurd. If the negative types had positive ideas for change that would be more helpful. Towns like Palm Beach are already doing something along the lines of what the Mayor proposes and empty stores there look infinitely better than ours. As to lowering taxes to address the many vacancies, I am not convinced. I suspect high rents are the issue and landlords may have to come to accept that the rents they are asking are too high. These issues, of course, must still be explored by the Mayor. In the meantime let’s try being part of the solution rather than bitter critics. " Sep 24, 19 5:07 AM
