im not saying they should have gotten an inferior boat- just one smaller and better suited to the needs of the district- and they could have done so for at least $350,000 LESS. remember, bigger equals higher fuel and maintenance costs too." Jul 30, 10 2:00 PM
you seem to be forgetting about the marine police boats- all the east end town have them. the primary function of a fire dept is putting out fires. search and rescue falls under the coast guard and local police agencies" Jul 30, 10 2:09 PM
the VP has no choice regarding his method of travel and his secret service detail- they go where he goes-period. business trip, vacation, whatever- he is guarded 24/7 as it should be, whether you like his politics or not" Jul 30, 10 8:57 PM

so what you're saying is the second in command of the USA should stay in a Motel 6 or a boarding house on vacation? how about sending him to a homless shelter, or maybe we could just drag an old mattress into the back of a bodega in Brownsville??
and by the way do you think the VP pays for his meals at his residence in DC?

Barcelona boat party was in Sag Harbor Cove on Sunday, they might have come from there. overall there were hundreds of boats there, with a few idiots mixed in. kudos to the harbormaster, Southampton and east hampton bay constables, sherriff and shelter island police boat for dealing with the idiots while everyone had a good time.
i dont even think anyone was arrested or seriously injured. after the boat sinking i saw the southampton boat bring someone in to the dock who was burned, and i saw a few people getting tickets, but overall the cops did a good job keeping a lik on things."

no its not- but co-ordination of response would be a good thing. witness the fiasco in the ocean last saturday night. somebody pushes a button and everyone gets in the trucks and races around without even knowing whats going on . ive heard from other fd's that north sea in particular tends to respond out of district without being requested
we have a huge pool of resources and qualified people available from all the PD's, fire depts and amb crews- but there is no one in charge and even a small incident turns into a free for all- its only a matter of time before someone is killed in the confusion "

i'm glad they "meet to keeps the cridentials alive" whatever that means, and based on your PS i'm guessing that you may be just a LITTLE biased. and now i would like to add- you totally missed the point then lets add a fast and efficient response by properly trained professionals is desired, not a bunch of overgrown kids playing with their sirens and then add if a police car, fire truck or amb responds recklessly and crashes they will never GET to the scene, and now add - why are all you FD people so defensive when anyone, God forbid, questions your qualifications??
