Calvin Klein plans to tear down controversial house

Ocean rescue succeeds despite snowstorm

They WILL have to reimburse the CG for resuce costs. And yes, smart captians, although not required to, will file a "float plan" before making passage. These sailors were obviously not goot mariners or else they never would have left port. If you're heading south for the season, it's a bit late to start that trip anyway. October is the time." Construction worker killed in job site accident in Southampton Village

Some poor working guy dies under tons of cement and debris, probably because standard construction practices were not followed, and all that some of you people can do is spout ignorance and hate by debating his citizenship status, which is apparently still unknown. The greedy, ignorant, hideous, and selfish behaviour here is appalling.

Put yourselves in a different pair of shoes: There's a dead body sitting somewhere in a local morgue, and a family is making funeral arrangements for a guy who was probably just trying to put food on the table for his loved ones.

So go ahead and continue worrying about yourselves while we have one less person on this earth, one who died needlessly.

Construction worker killed in job site accident in Southampton Village

Listen, "No Amnesty", by waving that flag out in front of the 7-11, you're really swatting at the symptoms, rather then actively making an effort to cure the problem. To wit:

1) The USA is the land where "the streets are paved with gold" (it may not seem like it lately, but trust me, compared to the rest of the world, it is...). and, immediately to our south lies Mexico, where drug cartels rule the day, the poverty level is appallingly high, the imbalance of wealth is worse than the spead against the NY Jets on any given Sunday, and many people are practically eating dirt.

2) SO... it's already hard enough keeping people from sneaking in to the US to make a living... now add to that equation the fact that your/my/our government publicly turned a blind eye (with a wink and a nudge to the corporate community and the wealthy, hungry for cheap labor) for decades, THEN turned around in mock surprise, saying, "Hey all you illegals are breaking the law"... and what you have is an institutionalized form of MASS ENTRAPMENT.

" Jan 12, 09 8:09 PM

3) It is financially, feasibly, and maybe even legally (court systems are overwhelmed with these cases, at the detriment to murder, drug, gang, organized crime, etc. cases) IMPOSSIBLE to deport the millions of illegal immigrants back to their country of origin. How you gonna do that when we can't even properly rescue New Orleans from a hurricane or even find Osama (probably) Bin Dead (for some time now)?

Here's some advice... take that energy and actively campaign for your political candidate of choice next election cycle. It will be effort well spent, and you'll actually feel good about participating in that level of the democratic process. Heck, if you have the stomach for it, run for office yourself. I'd bet you could get a good "pitch fork brigade" together.

Regards." Jan 12, 09 8:14 PM

That should be spelled "spread" against the NY Jets.

Rock Star Band Camp classes prep players for Hampton Idol

Used to be that kids would learn guitar, etc. by practicing/studying/playing for hours in their bedroom, studying recordings ad nauseum, then getting a band together in the garage, and adults where shunned. That was the whole point!!! Now, the rebellion has been removed, and kids have to enroll in a clinical process? Yikes. What the heck happened?

Although the "Record a CD" feature seems interesting, limiting the program to the "Rock" genre, while emphasizing the "Star/Idol" malarkey is neither imaginative, nor progressive. Talent is what needs to be developed, not a hunger for "stardom". To exist at the very core of "fame" is to live in a very hollow place. Oh wait, I forgot... this is the Hamptons we're talking about. Oops.

The beat seems OK... but I can't quite dance to it. I give it an 8.5 for effort, 5 for content.

And "Hampton Idol"? Wow, I didn't think they'd come up with a concept with a greater potential to cause an upset stomach than American Idol had. Wow." Jan 12, 09 9:07 PM

Another noose found hanging in the woods of Sagaponack

Um, maybe someone was planning on committing suicide, and put up a noose ahead of time. The police keep taking the nooses down, and this poor dude never gets to kill himself. Keep the noose up, let the guy off himself. Then we'll know who did it.

Creepy though.

BTW, if we hang George W. Bush in effigy using this noose, is THAT racist, too?

Southampton wrestling coach arrested on drug charges

It's pitiful... when it happens up-island or in Riverhead or in Greenport, you just can just ignore it... but when it shows up in YOUR perfect little town where everything is just so, (such as, golly gee, we'd better make sure all the housese built in the village are acceptable)... oh my GOD there's HEROIN in our town, and a RESPECTED member of the community is doing NARCOTICS, OH MY GOD, it's the end of the world.

Well, guess what? Maybe things AREN'T perfect in your little world. Maybe he's just fed up with the BORING, provincial "Pollyanna" existance you all espouse.

Not condoning what the guy did, and yeah, it's really bad to have a teacher of children caught with narcotics, and yeah, he's widely respected and loved... but look deeper for causes / reasons...

And there ain't a thing you can do about it. Welcome to reality.

Poor economy exacerbates persistent East End tension over immigration

Wow, there's a a lot of moronic debate here.

FIRST, it's impossible to defend illegal immigration. Impossible. And it's impossible to defend hiring illegals.

THAT SAID... by posing in front of the 7-11 with hand-made signs and waving flags (how creative) those who are "against" the local day-laborers have their eyes on the wrong prize...

YOUR government willingly lured these folks into the country in order to procure cheap labor, with a wink and a nudge - "don't worry, you won't get prosecuted". And NOW, suddenly, they're illegal? It's an institutionalized of entrapment, I say.

So, to these simpleton "Minutemen" (a complete misnomer, by the way, as the real Minutemen were Colonials who fought against a Monarchal Tyranny) types:

WHY aren't you campaigning for candidates who support your positions?
WHY aren't YOU running for office, at ANY level?
WHY aren't you identifying those contractors who hire illegals?
WHY aren't you identifying those at the HIGHEST levels of government who turned a blind eye to illegal immigration for so many years?

Because currently, you just seem like another ultra-conservative reactionary group... one that points out a ton of problems, without suggesting any solutions. And, by the way, total deportation is IMPOSSIBLE.

Got any IDEAS instead of a bunch of whining and crying?

They came, they saw, they crushed, even the six-foot hot dog

Because they don't want no hillbillies in the Hamptons. No, we can't have that.

If you want to live in a place where the law is not followed to the letter just because someone is "different", then by all means, support the local gov't on this issue. But, do you really want to live in a place where the local gov't can come down on someone like this with NO RESTRAINT just because he is deemed "weird"? (I like weird people, by the way. Normal folks are boring.)

So, put up a hedge. You knew who you were moving in next to.

The thing is, the TOWN COURTS correctly said that they only had the power to levy fines and sentance the man to jail time. The Town BOARD overstepped when they cleared out this man's yard. A Kayak? BBQ? Firewood? THE FREAKIN' HOT DOG MAN WRAPPED IN A FLAG????

Only in the Hamptons can someone's private property be taken away WITHOUT A COURT ORDER OR WARRANT. And maybe La Jolla. This is a total violation of basic private property rights, and the TOEH won't have a leg to stand on when this hits the courts.

I sincerely hope they get sued for all they're worth. Oh wait, the town has NO money. Damn." May 12, 09 9:23 AM
