Hooters hoax in Bridgehampton

Too bad. Hooters would have been great for the area." Feb 8, 10 3:39 PM

Very sad indeed. " Feb 8, 10 4:50 PM

Supporters gather for brothers facing fishing charges

The fish population has gone up and down for decades regardless of what restrictions are put in place by bureaucrat liberals looking to please a few vacationing sport fishermen.
Are you so niave to think that a handful of draggers and haulseiners can "clean out our oceans? Ridiculous!
This is the problem with our town and society. The Green movement comes in and uses what has been admitted as faulty data at best to kill an important cultural aspect of our Towns (not to mention a way of life). The ONLY reason that farming still exists around here is because it protects the views of the wealthy! That's it! " Mar 5, 10 4:39 PM

Bishop will vote yes on health care reform bill

I voted for Obama and now seriously regret it. I was hoping he would move more towards the middle (like a good politician should). The entitlement spending and government encroachment is disturbing. You can be sure myself and anybody with any type of business sense will vote him and the rest of the uber-liberals out of office. Social security, Medicare, and anything the government runs is broken. We still have another 20 years until the last of the babyboomers begin to collect, so what then? Here is a fix! Since we know these other programs are broken , lets create eanother unsustainable program! That's the answer. Idiots!!
The added taxes on those making over $250k are the employers out here in the east end. You're not hurting them. They are going to pass it on to their employees in the form of wage cuts. Services around here will become more expensive because increased taxes trickle down to the employee and consumer. Economics 101 people. And the government wants this economy to recover? They just guaranteed that prices of goods and services will continue to increase for a long time." Mar 23, 10 3:51 PM

Fairway Restaurant closed after 20 years

I see what your saying.....the Love Lane folks are good people too. Good for them. That uproar you speak of made about the BBQ place was by the summer rich folks worried about smoked-bbq smoke coming across their 5 acres lots!! This is about throwing a good man out who runs a great, affordable place for locals. There was never a "Hamptons vibe" at the fairway and we dont ever want one. This is not about the "establishment". Its about people. We are slowly losing the people that made this place what it once was." Mar 30, 10 3:39 PM

East Hampton plans to cut number of departments in half, offer early retirement

McGintee's crap aside........re-assess the whole damn Town and we wouldn't have a problem affording to run the Town. The McMansions are getting a free ride here and we're forced to deal with this mess. " Mar 31, 10 2:49 PM

Southampton Town looks to confer authority of peace officers on code officers

Actually, it sounds like a great idea!! They would NOT be under the PBA just like the fire marshall's are not, who I believe the article states are peace officers. They are in the CSEA.
The problem with code enforcement is they cant enforce the code!! lol. Giving these guys the authority to make a search of residences believed to be overcrowded is exactly what they need. Otherwise, the department is useless. For example, the EH CEO is having problem's proving people are in violations of the code. So why the hell does the department exist.
As far as costing more money that's a shot in the dark, at best. I'd bet the increase in fines would more than pay for any increase costs and gain the Town's some needed revenue!" Apr 1, 10 3:27 PM

Fairway Restaurant closed after 20 years

The whole management company should get thrown out. Has the Town really looked in to how they run the entire property? Or are they just looking at dollars and sense? What good is a driving range that's only open until 4PM??!!" Apr 5, 10 1:38 PM

IRS says Southampton Town comptroller owes $650,000 in back taxes

AMEN to that! No class warfare either!!" Apr 15, 10 3:34 PM

Officials want to use Southampton Town's Community Preservation Fund to save Stony Brook Southampton

To keep throwing money at this thing is ridiculous, nevermind the source. The handwriting was on the wall years ago when LIRR remove the platform at the college.
The CPF is one big sham to begin with. Towns should not be in the real estate business and there are numerous reasons why. PERIOD!!
Another branch of Suffolk Community is a decent idea but Stony Brook screwed that up when they purchased it. SCC will never spend that type of money for that land.
As sarcastic as Tree Man's comment was, its the only viable, & profitable use for that land." Apr 23, 10 12:22 PM

Just call them the comeback kids

Sounds like you're taking you own issues out in the wrong way and on the wrong people Nova....just like that umpire did.
If your were coach then you would understand that if the SH coach does not stick up for his kids, they will lose all respect for him. THAT is a fact!" Apr 23, 10 12:54 PM

Foster claims lack of transparency in East Hampton Town financial plan

Good for Bill W.. Foster needs to go away and stay away!!" May 12, 10 4:16 PM

East Hampton Group for Good Government holds school board candidate forum

Comparing our test scores with nearby districts is apples versus oranges. Those districts DO NOT have a Hispanic population of almost 40%!! But nobody can say that in a public forum." May 14, 10 8:34 AM

Southampton School Board suspends high school principal and assistant principal, who are then hired by East Hampton

Well, to put all the SH folks at ease.....we'll see what these administrators really have in them. EH is the most challenging community to work in. A board (new board at that who thinks they know everything), and a community that will hang you as soon as disagree with them. And a student body of 1000+, most of which are minorities (soon to be majorities). Good luck with that." May 20, 10 9:13 AM

You're all assuming educators are in this for the love of the job regardless of pay. The salary scale and benefits packages given to admins and teachers are SOOOOO riduclous that greed and entitlement has grounded itself in our schools. So when a teacher, or in this case, administrator, leaves one job for another to pad their salary, its a system that WE as taxpayers let happen. So, unless someone is willing to step up and challenge the unions and change the system, shut your mouth about what these people did. They simply left one job for a higher paying one. You ALL would have done it if given the opportunity." May 24, 10 8:19 AM

East Hampton citizens cry out against dark sky extension

Light pollution is definitely aa concern, but not here. East Hampton is not some big city, nor will it EVER be. To open the door and allow some group to MAKE the Town legislate what type of light fixtures people can use is ridiculous and a sad picture of what our Town has become......part of Massachusetts!!" Jun 2, 10 4:53 PM

No one is disputing any of the rambling above. What IS riduclous is making others abide by what YOU believe to be true. " Jun 8, 10 4:18 PM

Developer pitches casino in Calverton industrial park

No need to complain about all the bad that come with casinos......we all know what they are. There are good things as well. Its coming regardless of anyone's opinion. We might as well keep it in the area and there is no better site than Calverton. Infrastructure, space, buffer, access. Its a no-brainer." Jun 11, 10 1:45 PM

Calabro casino talks progress

No ,it's not those people who would oppose....it's the ultra-liberal special interest groups in the Hamptons that would come out to oppose. " Jun 18, 10 9:44 AM

No jail time, fine for Hults after guilty plea; grand jury does not indict McGintee

To say McGintee had nothing to do with this is ridiculous!! AND to say Laura M threw someone under the bus when all she did was resign?? Whoa! I 'd love to get some of what the conservators are smokin'!" Jun 22, 10 8:29 AM

Calabro casino talks progress

Wrong know-it-all, I was born "here". Preserving what's left on the east end is all well and good, but why don't you and the rest of SH face facts......... you're probably living on land that was taken from the Shinnecocks. It is official..............they can do whateverthehelltheywanto!!
They are never going to put a faciality on the reservation, so you shouldn't worry. Realistically, the best place with supporting infrastructure is Calverton. The folks in Riverhead are out of their minds if they don't snatch that opportunity. Has anyone been to downtown Riverhead lately?? Phew!" Jun 22, 10 8:41 AM
