Organizers: Sunday's Black Lives Matter Protest Is First Of Several To Come On East End

First of all these are two different groups, the one in BH is considered a vigil and is not blm, they civic and church groups, the one in EH is the same group that protested in Riverhead and it didn't block any traffic and was peaceful. Instead of being concerned about them protesting, it's why they are protesting. It should have never gone this far if action was taken years ago.
" Jul 17, 16 6:30 AM

Actually it was beautiful day with a very diverse crowd, chanting Black Lives Matter, All Lives Matter, Blue Lives Matter. There were officers out and they given respect and showed respect for the fallen police of Baton Rouge. So you can stay in your hole, we have many positive people here and it may get worse before it gets better, but it will get better. You wanted it to fail so bad and yes we are very proud of ourselves and everyone else that stood up for what is good and that's united body that want to work together to make things better for all involved." Jul 18, 16 12:00 AM

So far the protest in Riverhead, Easthampton & Bridgehampton, have not been disgusting, Actually a diverse group of people. By the way BLM has nothing to do with what's happened, in Dallas you had an individual that had mental issues and most likely angry too, that would use an opportunity to follow thru on this path. Pretty much the same for Baton Rouge, hate filled individual with issues. It's funny, there was a shooting at a court in-between these two events, I believe July 11th, 2 bailiffs were killed, it made news quick but then disappeared. Oh they found out the shooter was not black. No story about the 2 bailiffs lives lost, because it didn't mesh with the big story. People don't see how the media is as much a part of the problem. Racial tensions are a ratings juggernaut." Jul 18, 16 5:43 PM

Black Lives Matter Rallies Held In East Hampton And Bridgehampton Sunday

First of all that will not work because the White House doesn't designate hate groups, that was tried with Westboro and they had more signatures. Second, the basis BLM is to be able to move around this place we call the U.S. and not be profiled , not to feel like a target. Republican Senator Tim Scott, pulled over by the police 7 times in one year. Students on college campuses being profiled, mistreated, harassed. BLM is not a supremacist group and if you hear someone say something that rooting officers to be killed, say something, because that's not BLM is about. Most of us in this country have family and friends who are active/retired officers/military/FBI etc. so it just doesn't make sense for BLM to be a hate group against cops. As in any movement there can be bad apples, there is no application process, so anyone can use BLM but ti doesn't mean they are. " Jul 19, 16 11:13 AM

As close knit as SH is, to say you have never seen racism, against black people, latino people , or Native?? Do this, for one day walk around in the Hamptons as a black person male/female whatever you are. Follow your normal routine, then let me know about how BLM is racist, that makes no sense." Jul 19, 16 11:23 AM

Oh please get over yourself, you must live in hole if racism needs to be proven, your like the same people who think the Holocaust didn't happen. Nobody is checking for you anyway, stay in that hole. There are much better things people would love to be doing besides protesting on a hot day, so go kick rocks, ignorance is bliss." Jul 19, 16 11:38 AM

Not delusional nor a moron, there are bad apples in every group, including police officers, so you just made my point. We know the vast amount of officers do there job, but it's the bad apples that have caused the problem. Now you saw a protest on TV and you heard some people in that group calling for "blood of officers", I better check Youtube because I never saw that, between CNN, FOX, MSNBC and ABC covering the protests. My point, now the entire BLM movement wants cops dead, really??? 99% of us have family and friends in law enforcement, so it wouldn't make sense to hate police. The end result is get rid of the bad apples that use excessive force and profile, hold them accountable when they tase the wrong person, ask their name but didn't ask for ID and then lied after the fact to say they asked for ID and it was refused (It's on video, very clear by the way), or detain people because they can (Those are the bad cops). People also forget about the mental health issue, not newsworthy. Most of the mass shootings in the U.S> have been people with mental issues, still not a topic. Also the shooting where the 2 bailiffs were killed on July 11, what happened to that story? Oh the shooter was white, it's not newsworthy unless is works on racial tensions" Jul 19, 16 12:20 PM

It's interesting that you say that the Minnesota video looks bad and that the officer may be prosecuted and go to Jail. The problem is, that's not happening and that is why there is anger. All I can say is if that video wan't available, it wouldn't even be looked at." Jul 19, 16 5:22 PM

This absolutely not Obama's fault. the fact is the issue has been going on forever, now people are raising their voices and they are mostly of color, it's scary, so they must be labeled something. I'm waiting for someone to take up my challenge but so far no takers. Change your color for a couple of days to be a black man, now go about your daily routine out here or be adventurous and go to he city. This is the problem, a guy is parked in his own driveway, the cops approach him and ask his name, he tells them but hesitates at first because he doesn't know why he is being asked. They tell him he has a warrant, but the warrant is for a person with a totally different name. After they have forced him out the car and tased him, they find his wallet and he is not the person on the warrant. This is all on video, from start to finish, the cop then said you didn't provide ID when I asked, he never asked. This is one of thousands of videos people are seeing on social media plus with their own personal experiences. What you don't understand is that you can be the most educated, go to church every Sunday, volunteer your time to the community but your still treated like a common criminal and you will never understand that. Obama was elected in a time of increased popularity of social media and the mainstream media doesn't make it any easier because they focus on the negative. What you want is the BLM to stop so you don't have to hear about it, but we still have to live with it. You can act like it don't exist, placing a dirty band aid on a wound, will only cause infection. " Jul 20, 16 10:20 AM

If your interested in taking the class you can download application from the link. The next class is March 2017, but I'm told if there is an influx of applications, there may be an opportunity to organize a October 2016 class. The web page will explain what the class entails, I think it's a good learning experian. classes once a week 6:30pm - 9:30pm.

Black Lives Matter Rallies Held In East Hampton And Bridgehampton Sunday

Actually BLM is the same moniker that was used with MLK, maybe you never saw the signs they held up. Maybe you should take a moment and do some research. It's funny how you say "your tired" you haven't a clue what tired is. The point is "All Lives" should matter but maybe that goes over your head. The majority of black, Latino & Native-American people work hard, are educated and give to the community. Guess what we are still pre-judged, and treated differently, until you literally walk in our shoes, you will never know. So why don't you try it, takes some make-up but it would be an absolutely interesting adventure for you. Do that for a couple of days and then tell me how tired you are." Jul 21, 16 2:57 PM

Why are you copying and pasting pretty much the same msg you posted someplace else. I thought I had Deja vu. Any movement that focuses on this particular issue, wouldn't take much to incite any person that is not mentally right in the head. You can't control people, these individuals would have used any excuse to follow through on their mission. They were prepared, this was building up for a long time, but yet nobody is talking about the mental health issue here. Check the all the mass shootings in 2015, almost every single one had a mental issue. What prompted them to kill?? Well I guess you could say planned parenthood should have shut their doors because they were inciting people to kill. At the end of the day, this doesn't affect you on a daily basis. You sit on your chair and make comments to the tv, but other than that, it's not your problem. I will give you the same challenge as I give any other person that really wants to get a real life lesson. Go around for a day as a black man, I want to see how much your smiling after that. You have the privilege to sit back and make snide remarks. I'm just glad the officers that had a Unity barbecue with BLM, don't think like you, they get it. Like it or not, the movement is hear until "All Lives really Matter"." Jul 21, 16 7:30 PM

So short on knowledge and redundant. People like yourself sit and quote statistics and think you have it all figured out. No problem, you stay content with what you believe, as long as it makes you feel good. " Jul 22, 16 12:17 AM

The reason that specifically doesn't happen here much is because we are small community, most of us know each other and I probably know you, but we hide behind the screen names. Anyway there is prejudice and there is institutional racism in this community, I learned it first hand at a young age, so please don't try and tell someone that has lived it, what is or is not happening." Jul 22, 16 12:27 AM

Ignorance is bliss with your type. Nobody said police were inherently racist, where did you get that? I need to see this in print, I think something got lost in translation. You have no idea what people are doing in the black community. The people that work 2-3 jobs (yes they work) and then volunteer to start grass roots programs to get kids off the street. You think the media is going to show that? Do you all go to the same blog, do you dig any deeper, just sit there with statistics. Is that all it is to you? Then blame Obama, this is waste of time." Jul 22, 16 12:41 AM

Actually the BLM is a build up of many circumstances but it was brought to life after the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. Anyway, proper discourse is not going to be found ont he comment section of 27 east. If people want real discourse you literally talk to each other, in an open forum. Now if that's dome I will be the first one there but this is going nowhere. I could take up time typing and breaking everything all the way down, but for what? How many people are really paying attention to our comments? It's not making a change, so it's a waste." Jul 22, 16 1:01 PM

Facts? Now your really smoking something. Statistics do not explain a problem nor resolve a problem. If all BLM is to you are numbers, then you have already missed the points. If you want statistics, go to factcheck.org, the crime rate has gone down under Obama, after Trump said it increased. If that's what you live for, go ahead check stats, I believe in finding a solution." Jul 22, 16 7:36 PM

There is racism in the Hamptons, you think because an individual haven't been killed that it doesn't exist. Ok I don't have time to document every instance but I can post to my FB and tell people to come to this page and they can document their experience in the Hamptons. As I stated, if you want an open forum, face to face, lets do it, but I'm not writing a book on the comment page to justify anything to you, I don't have to, I have that privilege. I try to keep this unemotional, but if I were to post my experiences and have you make some corny comment to minimize it, I will then be pissed. Lastly, we don't just live out here, we travel and I would like to know I can travel anywhere and be treated fair. As MLK said 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere'. You don't just ignore what is happening because they are not killing the black people in your area, if that's your barometer as to when people should start standing up and saying something. Anyway if you think I'm just delusional and what I say has no merit, just ignore me, easy enough." Jul 23, 16 1:12 PM

No it's not racist and if it still has to be explained why it says "Black Lives Matter", then there is no point on continuing the conversation. I don't think any fruitful conversation comes from these comments, people are not really looking to talk to each other but talk at each other, it's a waste." Jul 28, 16 7:45 AM

Local Residents React To Stunning Trump Victory

People have spent too much time either gloating, if your Trump supporter or being angry if your a Clinton supporter. Wake up people, we have approx 200 mlllion eligible voters, approx 80 million people didn't vote for various reasons. Some were disgusted with both, some just assumed Hillary would win, some just don't care. Approx 120,000 million people voted, with the popular vote still in Hillary's favor. We have a split country with the people that actually voted, but you still need to tread lightly, because you still have 80 million that we have no idea where they stand. So no gloating either way, because even though they didn't vote, trust me if they see something they don't like, that's a lot of people to piss off ,and more then the numbers that either Trump or Hillary received. All people do up here is talk at each other, not to each other. Unless you are really open to a different point of view, there will be no real dialogue. These days people come on these pages like they are going to war. In all the time I've stopped in to read these pages over the year, I haven't seen a single person change their mind or their point of view by these great discussions, where you spend more time calling each other names (because we know that works) than really looking for a middle ground. Let's try this, I know a few thing we can agree with, we are all human, we all want to live well, we all want to leave something better for our children, and we don't want to live paycheck to paycheck. When we work hard, we want to see the fruits of our labor. Lastly as the bible tells us," To Love Thy Neighbor as yourself", let's strive for that. I don't know about you, I'm sick of the fighting, waste of time.
" Nov 18, 16 1:27 AM

First of all I haven't been on here in awhile, but i did get perspective from someone else that kept there mind right during this craziness. I also believe Black Lives Matter, the point of that label is that it has to be said. It didn't just pop out of thin air. It's common sense that All Lives "Should" Matter., but it's easy to deflect when it doesn't affect you and that's a privlege. My nephew is driving now, but he is extremely afraid the police because he used to stay in Hempstead. It's taken him awhile since being back here to let his guard down. We have family/friends that are officers, so to see him that way was hard.He still sticks close to home and doesn't drive far. I make him keep all info close so no need to reach, if it's dark turn on interior lights and roll down windows so when the officer approaches he/she can see everything. Anyway as I previously stated there is no point in discussion because it falls on deaf ears. Lastly I I'm a debater, i normally like debate and you can pull all my comments, I stated points, didn't call any names based on your political stance, I made my point, that has nothing to do with be innocent or guilty. Your guilty when you get nasty and I never did. All 63 of any comment I ever posted are there ( which are 63 wasted comments) at least they are not all drama, I see your much busier 653 comments. The point I make, has any comment made effective change? I'd rather spend my time talking to people face to face, on social media you don't even see people as real just a wall to vent your anger to. So I thank that person that gave me perspective, there is no point to argue with a bunch of nameless, faceless people, that don't know you personally, that don't care about you, that's why it's so easy to say the nasty things that are said. I have friends/family on different sides of the fence, we debate it and then leave it, we don't carry it. Maybe we should take down the shield and place real pics and real names, maybe we might actually get somewhere. We might actually recognize each other in the small area that we call the Hamptons. The reason why the Guardian Angels are here, if you've been reading/watching the news. There has been in an increase in gang activity, most notably MS-13, if know anything about them, it's not a group you want to see expand. Southampton School District To Officially Honor Indigenous Peoples' Day This Year

First off, Italy doesn't celebrate Columbus Day, secondly Why don't you celebrate Amerigo Vespucci which America is actually names after? Why don't you celebrate Galileo? Do you know what our numbers when settlers came? Do you know that U.S. Constitution was influenced by indigenious people, specifically the six Nation Iroquois Tribe? Do you know the first bible published in North America was written in the Algonquin language? Our school system is brilliant with Native knowledge, so don't tell me about how CC is represented. Interesting, you speak of all those things but not the community gardem we have, not the awards that have been rec'd from the EPA, not the beautiful homes and lawns that you also pass.
