Westhampton Beach Supermarket Opening Most Likely Pushed Back At Least Two Months

An important fact was omitted from this article. Best Market chose not to proceed with the previously filed site plan. It submitted a revised version to the Planning Board for its February 11, 2016 meeting. Its application for a demolition permit for interior work was submitted on February 23, 2016, and the Building Department issued the permit the very next day. The Planning Board, ARB and Building Department have done everything in their power to move this application along.

Deli Owner Challenges Westhampton Beach Village's Decision To Run Beach Concession Stand

Roger’s Beach is an extraordinary Village asset to be managed to the best advantage of the entire Village. By law, the bids for the concession stand cannot be limited to only local businesses. By bringing the concession stand in-house, the operation will truly be local. And the plan is to source the beverages and some food items from within the Village.

To suggest that business interests have not been considered during the last two years by me and the Board is not true.
-Movies on the Great Lawn brought hundreds to Main Street every Monday night last summer.
-The Harvest Festival, with the Chamber, brought thousands to Main Street last October.
-The new park on Glover’s Lane and the cleaning of the corner property at Main and Library enhance the Main Street business district.
-The $75,000 Downtown Revitalization Grant we obtained that is dedicated to improving the intersection at Mill Road, Main Street, and Library Avenue.
-A Hampton Jitney stop in the business district is in the works.
-Electric car charging stations are under consideration.
-The kayak and paddleboard concession at the marina is a great new attraction.
-Forming a business districts task force.
-Retaining engineers to prepare a proposal for the creation of a sewer district that will allow for more business opportunities in the downtown.
-Stopping the practice of giving tickets on Main Street for parking over the lines

These are just a few of the more visible efforts and results from the Board that support our businesses. Every day, in every decision, the interests of merchants throughout the Village are considered along with the interests of every resident.

There are advantages to taking the concession in-house that should not be overlooked. It will allow us to have more control over quality, service and pricing. We will also be able to draw from the beach attendant staff during peak hours which will allow for more efficient staffing for the concession stand. The fact that we are even having this debate reflects that it has been a profitable venture for private interests in the past. Those profits can be rolled back into maintaining beach facilities, or reducing food prices so that a day at the beach is more family friendly.

The decision for this year has been made. We will reevaluate the decision next year: was in-house a good idea, do we go back to bidding it out, what could make it better.

I am looking forward to a successful summer season for everyone.

Suffolk County Legislature Approves Westhampton Beach's Use Of Gabreski Sewage Treatment Plant

The completion of the proposed phase 1 sewering of Main Street and the properties south of Main Street to the canal will divert nearly 5,000 lbs of nitrogen away from Moniebogue Bay annually, reducing its total nitrogen load by 24%. The project will also result in a revitalization of Main Street by allowing for more restaurants, and the occupancy of apartments above the stores.

Westhampton Beach Village Residents Concerned About Ice Cream Truck Approval

No one should be criticized for calling the police if they have concerns for their own safety or that of the community. Better safe than sorry. Also, I understand why our local ice cream merchants are upset about the Mr. Softee permit, and believe me that the Board of Trustees does not want to do anything to hurt our local businesses, but it would be illegal for us to prevent Mr. Softee from selling in the Village, and what we can do is regulate for public safety which we've done by requiring fingerprinting, background checks, vehicle inspection, etc." Jun 10, 18 2:49 PM
