Who is Fred Thiele kidding!? I am sure this switch is made solely to further his political career in some way and iis related to his own personal agenda." Oct 2, 09 11:35 AM
I am so saddened by the hard feelings these negotiations, or lack thereof on the part of the Board, have caused in our community. I still do not understand how the Board could justify Dr. Gratto's receiving a raise when their claim is that money is so tight and that the economy is so bad! Why do different rules apply in that situation? It is time for the Board to stop wasting time sending updates to the community that only tell part of the story and use that time to resume negotiations; and it is time for the teachers to be realistic. Somehow along the way, our children have been forgotten. No one seems to even remember their happiness, well-being and quality of education are what really matter here. " Oct 18, 09 2:53 PM
How about settling the contract with the teachers before asking the public for money for windows, doors, roofing, etc.? I Let's get one thing straighted out before moving onto another!" Dec 4, 09 5:07 PM
I agree. That is why asking for $7 million at this time for windows, etc. is absurd! I did not mean to strike up another debate on the teachers' shirts. I just meant that the Board hasn't straightened out one financial matter--why go on to yet another and expect support from the taxpayers?" Dec 5, 09 8:29 AM
Art's Market brings back wonderful childhood memories as I grew up in the Village of Southampton in the 1950's and 60's. Mr. Price was a lovely man and was such an asset to the community. My thoughts and prayers are extended to his family." Dec 9, 09 12:50 PM
I am sure when this poor man is identified, his family will not appreciate your offensive comment. I" Jan 15, 10 4:42 PM
Thank You." Jan 15, 10 5:20 PM
It would be such a relief if this could be settled and my insurance would once again be accepted. I just hope my premiums won't skyrocket!!!" Jan 27, 10 3:31 PM
I think this is hysterical. Lighten up people--someone was just have a little fun!" Feb 8, 10 3:58 PM
And yet my co-pay just went up as well as my rates! This is all so frustrating." Feb 25, 10 9:28 AM
I am so proud of this girl for recognizing danger, running and telling an adult. I am happy that the mother reported it to the police and that the School District is supporting this family. " Mar 6, 10 11:36 AM
So, so young--so, so unfair and sad." Mar 6, 10 11:38 AM
Way too young--way too soon." Mar 6, 10 11:39 AM
What a wonderful, small-town story. Congrats and thanks to Mr. Topping for being a part of Southampton Village's history!" Mar 29, 10 3:17 PM
It is interesting Dr. Gratto proposes a pay freeze for everyone now--but he made sure he got his hefty raise first! " Apr 1, 10 3:02 PM
Why does every story about the Sag Harbor Schools have to turn iinto negative, hateful comments about the teachers? This freeze will affect ALL employees--including those in the District Office--they are the ones that are never mentioned--and they are the ones that are continually hired at exhorbitant starting salaries!
Why didn't Gratto just propose the wage freeze in the beginning of all of this mess and let the teachers just stay with the current contract? So many hard feelings and fighting among the community would have been avoided! I hope at the end of all of this economic hardship, Sag Harbor can heal and put all of these hard feelings behind us. "
Apr 2, 10 8:00 AM
At what cost does Gratto deserve a raise--the hard feelings and rift in the community?--maybe his raise could have gone toward the education and well-being of our children--isn't that an interesting theory! Maybe some of the extra-curricular programs that benefit the students could have stayed intact instead of his taking the money! How is Gratto taking a large raise saving the district money?" Apr 3, 10 10:48 AM
The ultimate goal in educating our children from grades K - 12 is that they get into college. Cutting the FEW electives offered by Sag Harbor compared to most other schools in the area is absurd. Not everything is about money--we need our kids to be successful!" Apr 6, 10 12:32 PM
This comment cracked me up--so well put and so true!!" Apr 7, 10 12:27 PM
Opening another school at this site would be a solution. However, it probably would not be a State University with State University tuition. My daugther is in college now--and it costs $50,000. per year--we need affordable options on the East End. She has attempted to take a course at Southampton two summers in a row---the choices are minimal and a joke. Stony Brook sabotaged Southampton right from the start by not offering courses and majors. I feel very badly for the students that are enrolled at Southampton now. I know the time, effort and long journey in chosing a college." Apr 9, 10 9:53 AM
I am glad that this poor, beautiful creature is finally out of pain and at peace. This was such a sad story, and I had hoped that it would have had a happier ending." Apr 9, 10 3:37 PM
They shoot horses, don't they?" Apr 9, 10 3:42 PM
Best of luck! I support your efforts and hope that your voice and message are heard loud and clear." Apr 11, 10 4:11 PM
The School Board was very sneaky in hiring Dr. Gratto knowing his reputation as a hatchet man. I think they bit off more than they could chew as the man is now out of control and making complete fools of the Board! None of this should have gotten to this point where there are so many hard feelings in the community. Bringing in a man (who has no experience as an educator) that does not understand, or care to understand, our unique, special community was a mistake. He seems to thrive on all of the turmoil and drama.
Returning his hefty raise would be a great start in helping the budget!"

A sad story, but, Mr. Mooney is right. Windmill Village is not the place for Susan. She needs more care and monitering. Perhaps now she will get the proper help. I wish her well." Apr 19, 10 3:41 PM
Well said, khnoway. In other words, and in my opinion, time to clean house!" Apr 20, 10 9:10 AM
