East End Officials Look Toward A Windy Future

Windmills offshore are an excellent idea. I've seen them in europe and they look like modern sculptures, sleek and handsome. They turn very slowly so birds can easily avoid getting hit. It's the small, fast moving blades and turbines of the backyard wind generators that kill birds. Offshore windmill bases would provide great fishing too as many species like to hang out around underwater objects." Mar 21, 11 10:15 AM

Offshore windmills work beautifully in europe and have for many years. We also should be pushing for solar panels on everyone's roof, like in Germany where it's been made affordable for the average person. It's long past time for both to be used extensively here for clean renewable energy." Mar 21, 11 10:23 AM

Southampton School District Fires Groundskeeper

The question is, why are there kids entering high school reading on a fourth or fifth grade level? Followed by, why are some not completing high school or being shifted off to BOCES? (see question one) And, why are the expectations so low. " Mar 24, 11 12:38 AM

Saltwater Fishing License Will Be Repealed

The Dongan Patent gives us the right to fish from the beaches. The state was just trying to find another way to raise money. Thankfully our Trustees stood up to them and sued a year and a half ago - and won in court. Theile didn't support the Trustees back then, but after they won he's right up in front, talking credit." It also gives you the right to go hawking on the beach. Me, I'm off to find me a hawk!" Mar 27, 11 2:07 PM

Pollution In Local Bays Tied To Residential Development

Silly article. It just restates the obvious. Building next to water should be limited for the greater good, period. Problem is, the land's too valuable. Owner's would sue and the town would give in - except for the Trustees, they seem to relish a good fight. Now, an article telling us the town board has absolutely decided to hold the line on waterfront development, come what may ... now THAT would be news. " Apr 1, 11 8:19 PM

'Royal Pains' Looking For Local Extras

Well, I'm out. I don't look rich. I'm not young and attractive, and I get seasick on boats. Sigh. But, it will be amusing to see who makes it onto the show. Probably they'll all be real estate agents, many look the part and have "luxury" vehicles. Johnj's right, the show's not very good, but I wish Matt0916 luck in landing a part!" Apr 8, 11 11:12 AM

Would my 1989 Chevy pickup qualify as a classic car? Ralph Lauren was selling vintage pickups a while back as an accessory to a country themed clothing line he was selling that year. I remember some summer person out here bought one and was driving it all around proud as punch, certain he looked like landed gentry. Pretty funny." Apr 11, 11 11:20 AM

Concerns About Lake Montauk Swirl As Study Continues

The gulls are dropping them on my house now. My gutters are overflowing with seashells and pieces of crabs. My deck has sharp pieces of mussel shells stuck in between boards and in summer the place smells to high heavens with all the decomposing sea life. Never used to happen years ago. You can have it all back!" Apr 13, 11 10:44 AM

Sagaponack School Officials Might Ask For Election To Be Nullified

Each of the 38 people had to have requested an absentee ballot. When it was sent to them, there must have been some information about how to use it properly. ALL of them misunderstood it?" Apr 13, 11 11:53 PM

Southampton Village To Rework Cherry Tree Idea After Opposition From Veterans

Please, Garden Club, leave Agawam Park alone! What's actually needed - haven't you noticed? - is sprucing up the entrances to the village which are like forgotten children. Hampton Bays Beautification has done an exemplary job with their hamlet's entrances. Take a field trip over there with your summer members so they can see what's been done. With any luck, after they have seen it the summer membership will want to turn their attention, talents and considerable resources to beautifying Southampton's entrances which are so plain Jane and often weedy, rather than always wanting to embellish what's been done." Polo Tournament Will Return To Two Trees For Summer

Oh goody. Maybe I'll get to help the police with another stray polo pony in the middle of the night. Nothing like keeping dozens of horses in temporary tents all summer long. How did they get permission to do that? Can I put up tents and rent out stalls too?" Apr 16, 11 11:20 AM

Southampton Town Board Fails To Appoint New Police Chief

Southampton Town Board Fails To Appoint New Police Chief

Aside from his blocking Tenagalia's appointment - according to the Town Hall grapevine, why doesn't Jim Malone spend more time at Town Hall? He's never there except for required meetings. He's still working a full time 9 to 5 job, M-F elsewhere, yet he's collecting a salary for working part time here. No one can work full time and part time during the same hours and on the same days of the week. The voters, and I voted for him, are being shortchanged." Apr 21, 11 9:31 AM

Building Boom: Speculators Test Market Waters Anew

Stale news. It's been obvious for months. Crews are working everywhere. Sounds of banging drown out the spring birds, material delivery trucks clog the roads and building crews have been parked all over everyone's street front lawns leaving deep ruts in their wake. Signs of a strengthening economy." Apr 25, 11 1:37 PM

Offer To Plant Cherry Trees In Agawam Park Withdrawn

Offer To Plant Cherry Trees In Agawam Park Withdrawn

Agawam Park is already well planted and maintained. There are plenty of needy areas that could use sprucing up. Unfortunately, many garden club members are primarily summer residents and not that familiar with the area, so turn to what they easily see, rather than look around for what needs doing. Along with the entrances to the village, the Parish museum grounds could use their touch." Apr 27, 11 10:21 AM

Southampton Town Board Appoints Wilson As Police Chief

I agree that it is inappropriate for off duty police to appear at a public meeting in their uniforms. It was intimidating. It looked like a police state. They had every right to be there, but they should have been there in their civilian clothes like every other citizen" May 4, 11 11:32 AM

Rogers Memorial Library Seeks Two Trustees

The library Director and current board members should look at these openings as an opportunity to add some needed diversity to its board so that it would reflect our community more accurately and be able to serve it better. A little outreach and encouragement might do wonders to persuade some qualified candidates to step forward. " May 14, 11 4:59 PM

Study: Long Island Has $99 Billion In Property Vulnerable To Storm Surge

Did anyone pay for this study? If so, they didn't get their money's worth. Historically big storm surges have pushed deep inland through low lying areas of the south fork, and across places where hundreds of multi-million dollar houses have since been built. Water reached as far inland as the railroad in some areas. Damage would be enormous." May 17, 11 12:25 AM
