Southampton Board Of Education Schedules Straw Vote On Merger

First of all obbservent, the Brazilian at the front desk speaks Portuguese, Spanish, French and English. She is invaluable to the Tuckahoe School community. Secondly, there are 4 other faculty members who are bilingual so I am not quite sure where your facts are coming from.
I would also like to point out that the majority of teachers employed by Tuckahoe are of excellent quality and have taught my children through the years. The decline in test scores for the past 10 years, as well as the increase in budget is out of the control of faculty and or board members. You are misdirecting your anger. It is true that the majority of the school is now Hispanic. What you might not know is that the children and parents have had limited medical care and education in there own countries and have many needs. Tuckahoe, by law, is required to educate these children and the teachers do so with care, respect and constant commitment.
If you are upset, see your town, county, state and federal government. Visit the landlord who is making mega bucks renting to several families and paying taxes for one. Speak with code enforcement who does nothing about it. Then brace yourself...in 10 years your Southampton school will look very much like Tuckahoe. " Oct 2, 13 2:07 PM

Southampton School District Voters Reject Proposed Merger

I respect the voting results, but it baffles me that people are still so misinformed. Unfortunately those same people have very loud voices and spread the wrong information as accurate. " Nov 1, 13 10:19 AM

Second Tuckahoe School Budget Proposal Fails To Muster Enough Voter Support

I can appreciate your frustration, however, it is not the Board of Trustees who have created this problem. Looking at the past 5 years alone, changes and additions of laws and regulations are immense. The State requires all students to take state tests even though they are new to the country and have never been in a school setting before (= low scores). They are placed in an age appropriate grade without the basics of knowing reading or writing. The new regulations require ENL (English as a new language) teachers pushing into classes and teaching the students in smaller groups, outside the classrooms (=more money). With all of the new regulations, of course, the cost of staffing will increase. Blame the Government for allowing many illegal immigrants to come to our country, then adding costly regulations, (without any funding), providing very little state aid and then placing a tax cap. I, instead, say thank you to the board members who volunteer their time and energy to preserve the school." Jun 23, 16 1:52 PM

The Parent-Coach Conundrum In High School Sports Stresses All Sides, Educators Say

I think there is a difference between little league, school sports and travel sports. Little league requires volunteers to act as coaches. Travel sports are often very expensive, however, children and parents have a rightful expectation that they will learn and improve in that sport. School sports are a bit trickier. These are PAID coaches, usually a teacher or employee of the district who may or may not be proficient in the particular sport, but are willing to coach or have seniority so get the job over someone else. In this case I believe it is the School District and specifically the Athletic Director who should be responsible for mentoring the coach if new and evaluating or following up on experienced coaches. With that being said, in my opinion, parents should not be permitted to interfere at all with the coaches. If a parent has complaints they should be instructed to speak with the Athletic Director. Hampton Bays School District Files $10.6 Million Notice Of Claim Against Town Over Illegal Rentals

Actually it is only HONEST single home landlords! There are so many slumlords who illegally rent these houses to multiple families. They landlord makes a killing while the school must educate numerous children without proper funding, not to mention the unsafe environment for the tenants. I don't care where you fall on the political spectrum, this is just wrong for everyone." Jan 31, 18 12:13 PM
