What a great season Mariners! I agree with the person above - way to show the big schools what you are made of. You should be extremely proud of what you accomplished this year." Mar 7, 15 2:32 PM

Tuckahoe Uncertain If It Can Continue To Educate Shinnecock Students

The Shinnecock Reservation lies in both Tuckahoe and Southampton School Districts. The Bureau of Indian Affairs would not be acting in the best interest of the Shinnecock Nation if they restricted the families in deciding where their children should be educated. It would not be difficult for NY State to divert funds to Tuckahoe to reflect the current situation." May 16, 15 2:40 PM

The comparison is not valid. People that live on a reservation do not enjoy the same home ownership/property rights you do. They live on the Reservation. In this case, the Reservation lies squarely within two school districts. Simple logic, while not normally applied in issues involving bureaucracies, would demand that those families have the right to choose their school district and have the state comply with apply reimbursement functions accordingly. It's not a lot to ask all things considered." May 17, 15 10:54 AM

Central High School Proposal To Be Vetted On Thursday

Silliest idea to come out of these parts in a long time. As a taxpayer, I would appreciate it if you could minimize the cumulative time wasted on this non-starter." May 19, 15 11:02 AM

Tuckahoe Uncertain If It Can Continue To Educate Shinnecock Students

This issue is not about tuition. Reservation lands are held in trust by the state and those that live there are not subject to property tax. The federal government reimburses the district for the cost. So to answer your initial question, the taxpayers of Tuckahoe should not pay anyone's tuition. Your premise is entirely flawed." you care to elaborate on that assessment?" Jul 3, 15 7:01 AM

I respect your right to possess any opinion you wish but the survey size is immense when compared with any poll conducted by Quinnipiac, Bloomberg, Gallup etc. The statistical sample size here is 2-4x the normal sample size polled in any number of nationally respected polling firms' sample size. I'm not sure how you conclude that the methodology is sloppy, I disagree with your opinion. In fact, if those kids feel like there is an increased level of anti-Semitism, would it not be better to try and help them rather than to tell them they are wrong? They experienced something unpleasant...can you imagine telling other people who have claimed to feel increased levels of prejudice that they are simply wrong? Not sure why people feel like that is ok to do to Jewish people." Jul 3, 15 8:52 AM

Hopefully they will soon catch the person(s) who is responsible for the recent unprovoked assaults on Orthodox Jews in Brooklyn. They are being investigated as hate crimes.

"When asked how the attacks are affecting the community, Rabbi David Niederman of the United Jewish Organization of Williamsburg told Gold: “Basically people start thinking, ‘Can I allow my child to be out even during the day?’ And even adults, at night it’s scary.”" Jul 8, 15 11:27 AM

Proposed Southampton Water Protection Plan Would Link Local, State and Federal Goals

There has been a four year study undertaken in order to open SH Town up to grants that we can use for water preservation? SH Town has always been eligible for State and Federal water preservation grants, has it not?

If I understand this correctly, The LWRP is an extension of the FCZMA from 1972. In the 80's, NYS created a new Coastal Management Program or CMP so the state could create is own LWRP....

Now, Once the LWRP is in place, the town will enact local laws and procedures to carry out the goals of the plan .Currently, the LWRP is still in the public comment phase. Then it goes to the state review which could take months....phew.

Seeing as though this effort started in 1972 perhaps 43 years of planning is enough and we can implement some changes that will positively impact the clarity of our coastal and inland bodies of water.

UPDATE: Funeral Services Set For Tuesday For Respected Shinnecock Elder, Elizabeth Thunder Bird Haile

I give you this one thought to keep -
I am with you still - I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the sweet uplifting rush,
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone -
I am with you still in each new dawn.
