Still No Buyer For Hampton Bays Diner Building One Year After Closure

Hampton Bays wants and needds a diner. A good diner. Ask anyone. We do not need a CVS or another chain store. The diner was iconic.
With decent food and only a few hundred feet from 27, it should be a goldmine.
Where is the Town on this? Can't they help? Personally I think the property taxes seem untenable. Think outside the box Schneiderman and Co as you seem more than willing to do for the rich in Tuckahoe!!!" Aug 18, 16 11:41 AM

Press News Group Files Lawsuit Against Southampton School District Seeking Details Of Former Superintendent's Departure

The First Amendment and our various Sunshine Laws mean nothing if the press doesn't fight to make them respected and upheld. Good for You! I hope you get reimbursed. If not, the entire east end community should have fundraiser in your honor. We should have a party in your honor anyway. After Tumbleweed Tuesday!!! Thank you all for your persistence on our behalf." Hampton Bays Superintendent Expresses Concerns Over Town Supervisor's Accessory Apartment Idea

You have put your finger on part of the problem...Code Enforcement.
But the worst problem is the Zoning Board of Appeals. Jay can say anything he wants about how they will be restricted by property size etc., but thee ZBA will come along and grant any variance the owner wants, especially if it is in a community like HB. When the original Accessory Apt Law was being considered, then-Supervisor Skip Heaney said HB would not be affected as lot sizes too small. So, as soon as it passed, owners on lots way smaller than minimum under law went to ZBA. Got ok to build plus to build apts much larger than allowed under the Code. Then these are LEGAL forever. At least if Code Enf does its job one day, the illegal ones will be shut down. The ZBA ones are permanent. If there were some way to make the Code foolproof, then maybe ok. But there isn't and the ZBA is a terrible board. They side with the applicant time after time after time. They may make minor revisions now and then to act as if they are being tough but they are a joke. People, especially community and civic leaders, should pay attention" Sep 8, 16 12:32 PM

She's new on the board. Why not speak to her and point out the loopholes people use to avoid the Codes. The ZBA is the biggest loophole in existence. The code can say 3/4 of an acre all it wants and then, next thing you know, applicants will be before the ZBA for a variance for 1/4 of an acre! Mark my words!!! ZBA is a bunch of losers." Southampton Town Supervisor To Meet With Shinnecock Hills President, Michael Bloomberg On Tuckahoe Road Reroute Proposal

Back in the '80s Nancy Reagan said of drugs, "Just Say 'No' and walk away."
And so, Jay Schneiderman, take a page from Nancy Reagan and apply it to Tuckahoe Rd. Just say "No" and walk away." Sep 12, 16 6:01 PM

Proposal To Reroute Tuckahoe Road Is Put On Hold

Can someone explain to me how moving the turn-off to the proposed hospital from Tuckahoe Rd and CR 39 to Road "X" and CR 39 will really improve access and traffic flow? It seems to me it will just shift the turn-off a bit.
High Hat Size is right. This is all part of a long game on the part of the club. They will just keep adding their money and political muscle to the mix until all the players have been bought in some way shape or form.
Those now in office wonder why people are so angry that they are tempted to elect a crooked, buffoon as President just because he's not part of the political "system" they have grown to hate.
Maybe those who are part of the political establishment will wake up and see the monster their selfishness, greed and lust for power have created." Sep 28, 16 2:15 PM

Poll Shows Zeldin With Lead Over Throne-Holst; Trump Leading Clinton Among East Enders

Why are you saying this is all locker room talk. Trump ADMITTED and BRAGGED about doing these things. That's called a confession.
What makes you think Hillary okayed his behavior in the White House? Don't you remember stories coming out at the time that they got in a big fight and she threw an ashtray at him? remember the walk to the helicopter where they were clearly estranged and Chelsea was walking between them?" EDITORIAL: Sadness, But Also Gratitude And Pride

You are spot on. Despite the devastation we are grateful for the fact no lives were lost or anyone injured. I hope the people made homeless by this fire are being taken care of. We are so lucky to live in a place not only so beautiful but one filled with great people. I am so proud of my neighbors. I am so saad for Sag Harbor. But I know it will come back prettier and stronger than ever.

Town Supervisor Says He Is Hesitant To Entertain Second Apartment Complex Proposal For Speonk

A few comments:
1. We DO need affordable housing out here but......
2. The extra density needs to be scattered. One approved in an area is enough for now. Scatter them throughout the town as much as possible.
3. Three bedroom apartments are too large unless on the water or some place like that where people will do lots of seasonal entertaining. In Speonk, 3 bedrooms will attract large families with children, placing a heavy burden on the schools. Size of apartments + density= Trouble.
4. Apartments should mostly be 1 bedroom. The population would then be mostly young people starting out or seniors downsizing. Some 2 bedrooms ok but not majority. " Feb 9, 17 12:08 PM

Local Businesses Close For A Day, Join Nationwide 'Day Without Immigrants' Protest

UPDATE: Hampton Bays Taxpayers Reject $9.9 Million Library Referendum

I voted no but do hope they pursue purchasing the building anyway. Adjoining property might really be needed in the future and unavailable or available at exorbitant price. However, I will go nuts if the building is used for administration. Admin should be on premises and highly visible.

First Responders Pull Woman From Hampton Bays Fire

Ms. Donelan deserves a very big round of applause. She noticed the fire, called 911 and ran in to get the woman. When the woman wouldn't come with her, fortunately the first responders arrived and got her out. She risked her life as an untrained civilian running into a fire.
Congratulations to an unsung hero!!!" Apr 8, 17 12:37 PM

UPDATE: Hampton Bays Taxpayers Reject $9.9 Million Library Referendum

Sorry you feel that way. I think HB voters did their JOB and saw a misguided effort if there ever was one. $10 million. With debt service $19 million. Confusion over what they planned. Complete roof. Yes. Oops. No, partial roof. Outrageous estimates. (Remember many in the HB community are in the building trades. They know reasonable costs when they see them. They also know seat-of-the-pants estimates and overinflated totally nonsensical estimates when they are bandied about also) The "old" renovation is still being paid off. In little over a decade after we got new windows, we need them all replaced? The bathrooms are the same age. They need to be gutted along with everything else? Come on!!!
The voters were prudent in their judgment. You can call it "parsimonious" all you want. The voters were not being cheap. They were being wise. " Apr 13, 17 5:53 PM

Hampton Bays Library No Longer Seeking To Purchase Adjoining Property

I think this is another example of how poorly this board and the director are reading the community. I know many who voted against the proposed $10 million proposal. I do not know of one single person who opposed buying the house next door. " May 10, 17 11:29 PM

Michael Bloomberg Reaches Out To Southampton Town Official, Hoping To Revive Discussion Of Tuckahoe Road Reroute

The sense of entitlement insults me. The chutzpah is galling. Because they have money, the rich not only believe they can buy anything but begin to believe they are entitled to buy anything they want. The people have been loud and clear in saying "no" but the golfers think they can wear them down or buy them off.
Even though it's not totally apropos, I'm reminded of a poem. I forget the author's name. It was written before the enactment of child labor laws. But it does show the same lack of respect or empathy to others.
"The golf links lie so near the mill
That almost every day
The working children can look out
And see the men at play." " May 13, 17 9:26 AM

Hampton Bays To Get Trolley Service This Summer

Just by looking at the stops there is no reason to believe they think this will rally be used by locals. It will be used by people who get off the train, go to the beach, maybe go to a restaurant near the inlet or maybe go to the park for a picnic, get back on the train and go home. And, if they bring their own food, they can have a lovely day using taxpayers facilities at no expense to them except for the bus ride. Oops, I mean trolley ride." May 13, 17 9:32 AM

Hampton Bays Friendly's To Close Soon; Building Listed For Sale

Why is the town being blamed for this??? Good grief. I don't get it. Friendly's has not been doing well as a corporation and has been closing several locations here on LI and elsewhere.

Maybe if we were positive about what we wanted, Real Estate places could show prospective tenants or buyers our interest and it would help.

I do wish, however, the town could figure out a way to be more proactive about the deteriorating diner. I understand there are legal issues holding up a sale. Maybe the town could put a little pressure on folks????" Jul 20, 17 11:35 PM

Hampton Bays Diner Sold

If the town gives a special exemption permit for something like a CVS , they should be ashamed. That spot is THE GATEWAY to HB. A diner was ideal and we should fight hard to get a good diner there again. When people from HB drive all the way to Moriches (and lots do) because there is no good diner close, you know the need is there. It's also semi-historic to have a diner on that spot. Everyone I speak to says they want a diner there!!! " Jul 27, 17 3:28 PM
