Mosquito ditch study pointing to pollution receives international support

Congratulations to the Baykeeper again for having the facts right. If the County and our own Trustees listened more carefully to what the Baykeeper had to say he would not have to waste so much money and effort on lawsuits. " May 12, 09 1:46 PM

Hampton Bays restaurant and bar to get face-lift

the renovation plans are clean and classy, and Squiretown is a perfect name,, and knowing Charlie, I am sure the food is going to be fabulous. I claim the end seat at the bar!!" Sep 25, 09 10:53 AM

Southampton Town Supervisor Shares Vision For New Ponquogue Beach Restaurant

Improving the pavilion is a great idea and long overdo. Expanding the current grimy concession stand is needed and the revenue it generates would cover the cost of the renovation and could actually generate revenue for the Town. There is no down side at all to this great idea." Mar 24, 16 11:32 AM

Southampton Town Board Will Seek Community Input On Upgrading Ponquogue Beach Pavilion

Great Idea. The pavilion needs an upgrade to make it compliant with new regulations, so we should do it right. Expansion of the concession into a restaurant will generate more revenue for the Town. " Mar 30, 16 9:37 AM

Southampton Town Officials Meet At Triton Lane To Discuss Opening Second Ocean Beach-Driving Area

Currently we can drive on the beaches all year long except for 9am-6pm during the peak summer months. We have to understand that most parents do not want our trucks driving around them and their children on the beach. We should also keep in mind that many people do not want to turn beaches into large parking lots. The current rules are a good compromise. Think ahead, what happens when Triton lane becomes too crowded with trucks? More lawsuits, and perhaps a backlash that diminishes our current access. We should not risk ruining a good thing by changing the current rules." Jul 21, 16 10:18 AM

Southampton Town Might Now Open Different Western Beach To Four-Wheel Vehicles

I enjoy driving on the beaches in Hampton Bays, and I am permitted to do so almost all year long except between 9am and 6pm during peak summer months. And this long-standing tradition makes sense. The beaches are mostly empty during the off-season, and during the summer most parents prefer not to have big 4-wheelers drive around them while they and their children relax in the sand. The current rules are fair for everyone and should not be changed." Dec 22, 16 10:47 AM

Local Group Will Pitch $25 Million Aquatic Center For Red Creek Park In Hampton Bays

This is the best idea I have heard in a while: 1) Currently many parents are driving their children to Riverhead for swim lessons, so there is a lot of demand 2) Life Guards can be trained and perhaps HBHS can have a swim team 3)Swimming is great exercise for senior citizens. 4) Will improve the park and HB.

Southampton Town Leaders Accuse Zeldin Of Making 'Misleading' Comments About Hampton Bays During White House Visit

Zeldin is dangerous for our community. He co-sponsored the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, which allows anyone from any state to come to NY carrying concealed automatic weapons. Some states have no restrictions on concealed weapons and gang members there can legally carry until they are convicted of a crime. Zeldin invites them all here with their weapons. Zeldin has turned into a politician who will say anything to get re-elected. But he doesn't care about our town, as his sponsorship of the gang-loving Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act demonstrates." Mar 7, 18 3:03 PM

Yes I meant Semi-automatic handguns. And 7 states don't require any permits to carry concealed weapons. " Mar 7, 18 3:43 PM

Lee Zeldin doesn't Hampton Bays, only about getting re-elected. " Mar 7, 18 3:46 PM

To be clear: In several states it is very easy to buy and carry concealed semi-automatic weapons (easier than getting a drivers license). Those states already have reciprocity agreements between them. They don't need the law that Zeldin co-sponsored. Zeldin's law is specifically designed to allow people from those easy-gun states to come to NY with their concealed weapons. It would be very easy for gang members to establish residency in an easy state, and return to Long Island with their legally concealed semi-automatic weapons. Probably 90% of the citizens in our town think this law is a bad idea, and yet Zeldin co-sponsored it. Why? He did it to stay in good favor with the radicals that fund his campaign. He endangers us for more campaign cash." Mar 7, 18 4:39 PM

UPDATE: Hampton Bays Man Issued Six-Count Indictment From Stalking Incident At High School

Zeldin co-sponsored the Reciprocal Concealed Reciprocity Act, which would allow anyone with an out of state concealed carry permit to come close to school property with a concealed gun. Moreover, the act would override the federal Gun-Free School Zones Act, which protects our schools at the federal level. Almost no one in our community supports Zeldin’s Bill. Zeldin sold us out for cash from the NRA and its affiliates." Apr 19, 18 10:42 AM

It involves congress because: Zeldin co-sponsored the Reciprocal Concealed Reciprocity Act, which would allow anyone with an out of state concealed carry permit to come close to school property with a concealed gun. Moreover, the act would override the federal Gun-Free School Zones Act, which protects our schools at the federal level. Almost no one in our community supports Zeldin’s Bill. Zeldin sold us out for cash from the NRA and its affiliates" Apr 19, 18 10:42 AM

Hey Moron El, I am a citizen who owns two shotguns. I’m not part of any movement. You seem fine if out-of-towners come to our community with their concealed guns, but most all of us don’t want it. So Zeldin either sponsored this bill because he agrees with you (a fringe minority) or he did for money. Either way he has to go. " Apr 19, 18 2:05 PM

Hampton Bays Business To Use Southampton Town Trustee-Owned Property As Parking Lot Under Agreement

I just drove by and it looks terrible. It has been stripped of all grass and plants. It's a muddy mess. Now we have the Bel Air motel, this ugly waterfront parking lot and the the Station Bar all in a row. " Jun 5, 18 3:32 PM

Southampton Town Board Having Informal Talks With Suffolk County Water Authority Regarding Possible Takeover In Hampton Bays

This is such great news. We should definitely sell the whole district to scwa. Our rates will go down and our water supply will be better protected. The current employees of hbwd will keep their jobs AND have a better opportunity for advancement. Everyone in Hampton Bays wins." Jul 24, 18 4:40 PM

The water rates are not in dispute, they are public information posted on the the SCWA and HBWD websites. People in HB also pay a water tax on their property tax bill. In total the people in HB pay significantly more than EQ. If your water bill tripled, as you claim, you may want to check for more leaks. " Jul 26, 18 10:08 AM

Your post is both wrong and misleading. You are obviously associated with the HB Water District. Please stop trying to mislead the public. As you should know, a complete rate comparison will be done as part of the merger analysis. And the numbers will show everyone in HB how much money they will save based upon how much water they use. Your post is just another example of how we can not trust the HBWD. Two examples: You skipped water tests that allowed toxic PFOA into our water, and then you turned our water black for over a month - even though you had a whole year to plan for the filter installation. SCWA has 600 wells, and their own water testing lab. I want my family to drink the safer water from SCWA. " Jul 27, 18 4:15 PM

Southampton Town Plans To Purchase The Bel-Aire Cove Motel In Hampton Bays For Redevelopment

If the lot is converted into 8 units of vacation housing, then the property contributes taxes without adding students to the school district. Cpf purchase probably next best alternative. The motel is a nightmare and we should all be happy it is going away." Aug 15, 18 9:54 PM

Southampton Town Expects Official Proposal From SCWA To Manage Hampton Bays Water System

You are wrong. When you combine the tax that the people of HB pay with the water bills, the people of HB pay a lot more total for their water than SCWA. What is atrocious is that even though we have been paying more for years , our infrastructure still doesn’t meet the minimum safety requirements. The extra money that we pay has gone into the pockets of Mr King and the other HB Water leadership, instead of to the needed upgrades." Aug 31, 18 3:40 PM

You are right, past Town Boards have neglected their responsibility as Hampton Bays Water Commissioners. As a result we have an unsafe water supply. The current Town Board is taking the steps to permanently fix the problems caused by decades of neglect. We now have to spend millions just to get the infrastructure to a minimum acceptable level for professionals at SCWA to manage it. It is painful but must be done." Sep 2, 18 8:53 AM

Greek-American Restaurant Coming To Hampton Bays In September

A perfect restaurant for that location. Good luck Mr. Zanos, see you there." Sep 2, 18 10:39 AM

Southampton Town Board Expects To Receive Official Proposal From SCWA Next Week

The water rates in HB are far more likely to skyrocket if we don't let SCWA take it over. As mentioned in the article, for years the leadership of the HBWD has failed to perform required maintenance and upgrades to our water system. And at the same time we were paying more for water than SCWA charges. Evey year that we stay with the HBWD , we lose more money. Our water infrastructure is in such bad shape right now that the SCWA won't even consider taking it over unless we fix it first. We need to fix the infrastructure and hand it over to SCWA as soon as possible. The people of HB deserve to have the same safe, reliable water supply as our neighbors in Westhampton, Southampton, and East Hampton." Oct 2, 18 9:13 AM

Community Members Speak Against Town Purchasing Bel-Aire Cove Motel In Hampton Bays

The illegal housing at the motel is a serious health and safety hazard for the people who live there, and for their neighbors and the community. For the safety of all, it should have been shut down long ago. The Town is doing the right thing; buying it and demolishing it. Reselling the land for use as Eco-friendly seasonal vacation condos is a great idea to try. CPF purchase for open space preservation is next best alternative. Either way in needs to be done. The place is a ticking time bomb." Oct 2, 18 10:00 AM

Southampton Town Board Receives Official SCWA Proposal To Manage Hampton Bays Water System

The proposal from SCWA is astonishingly good! We get a safer, more stable water supply and our infrastructure also gets upgraded (which, in its current state, is a ticking time bomb). We will be interconnected with the same water supply as the rest of the Hamptons, which should have been done decades ago. And all the current HBWD employees keep their jobs. This is a win win. The Town Board has done Hampton Bays a great service for seeing this through." Oct 24, 18 8:59 AM

Southampton Town Board Tables Walk-On Resolution To Approve Bel-Aire Cove Motel Deal

At least we can all agree that the Bel Aire is a health and safety risk, and needs to be demolished ASAP. I think the town's plan to buy it, prep it, and then re-selling it is a worthwhile plan. Covenants can be placed on the property to protect the surface and ground water. The property would be auctioned off to the highest bidder in a public auction, so everything will be in the open. Alternatively, if it is purchased with CPF and becomes a park, I believe the primary use would be a parking lot for the Station Bar. There is little need for a park there -the back bays are not safe for swimming and therefore not safe for paddle board launching. If it is purchased with CPF it should be just vegetated and left as a natural wetland buffer." Oct 25, 18 9:57 AM

Concerns Swell Over Future Of Hampton Bays Water District Employees With SCWA Takeover

The current employees of the HBWD keep their jobs, get a raise, and have more opportunities for advancement. The complaints that the HB employees would start at the bottom of the ladder at SCWA are crazy; being at the bottom of a ladder is better than no ladder at all; and that’s what they have at the HBWD- no ladder at all. The leadership of the HBWD doesn’t want to lose their fiefdom, and will make up any reason to thwart the merger. First they said the cost of water would go up, now they are saying the employees would be harmed. Both are false. Water rates will rise faster without the merger, and only poor performing employees won’t advance. Hard working employees will do much better with the merger." Oct 29, 18 7:15 PM

Southampton Town Board Tables Walk-On Resolution To Approve Bel-Aire Cove Motel Deal

The Bel Aire has been a problem for 7+ years, Jay is fixing it. Our beach pavilion has been deteriorating for years, Jay is fixing it; our water district is an antiquated mess, and Jay is fixing it. I hope he loses the election for comptroller. We need him to finish his work here. " Oct 31, 18 10:42 AM
