Sag Harbor School Board, teachers to resume negotiations

Why "teachers" in quotations? Teachers aren't allowed to stand up for themselves? And read the article: The teachers are not asking for a 20% increase over three years." Oct 20, 09 5:37 PM

Empire and Alliance resume attacks as hospitals remain without contract

I dropped Empire rather than wait around. The good news is that it looks like we are going to see health care reform legislation pass in this country and we may even get a robust public option.

After all of the insanity from the right in August, cooler, saner heads have prevailed and a majority of Americans wan't real reform. Ask yourself this: What do insurance companies add to your health? They exist solely to make profit and it is time we start caring for our citizens, not denying them coverage." Oct 22, 09 4:44 PM

Empire and Alliance resume attacks as hospitals remain without contract

What does that have to do with this discussion. Firstly, the largest group of people using emergency services are American citizens. Families who have lost their jobs, single mothers, people who do not get insurance from work. You think Empire is paying for these people? Do you think your insurance company is paying for your neighbors who cannot afford insurance? They're not. You pay for it. I pay for it. The government pays for it and that is why we need health care reform not immigration reform. You insurance company has raised your rates nearly 400% in less than ten years and it is NOT to pay for uncovered emergency room visits.

I am always amazed how people like yourself take every opportunity to try and blame "illegals" for all of the ills of society. It would be one thing if you had even the slightest inkling of the facts, but to simply spew hatred and ignorance to make yourself feel better is disgusting. Stop listening to Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh and go out and educate yourself on the facts before spouting such ignorance." Oct 23, 09 8:15 AM

You sound like a Beck listener to me because you're spouting the same right-wing BS as him and Limbaugh. There are state insurance regulators, but they don't do anything because they are in the pockets of the insurance lobby. Have you paid any attention to the facts? Insurance rates have risen nearly 300% in just a few years while CEO execs make 27 million dollars a year and spend their money on lobbyists and denying claims. 44,000 people die every year for lack of coverage. 60% of ALL bankruptcies are health care related. You can try to deny the facts - but you can't hide from them.

You mention Cobra - what happens when you lose your job and Cobra runs out? Are you self employed? Sounds like your health care may be paid through your job, but millions like me have to pay out of pocket. Have you had a look at Healthy NY rates? If you make over 50 grand it costs $900/month for a family. Sound like a bargain to you?

I am fed up with folks like you. The majority of Americans are fed up with folks like you. The plans in congress will actually REDUCE the deficit and be paid for by premiums - a public option is NOT a government run give-away. Besides, if you are happy paying the private insurance criminals - go ahead. No one is trying to stop you. Just get the hell out of the way and let those who want a choice have it. Even on crack I make more sense than you. By the way, I think folks like you should be refused medicare when you come of age and I am sure you agree as that is a government run program." Oct 25, 09 6:21 PM

Hey, Walter, perhaps you need to come up out from that rock you're living under and take a look around. A majority of American people SUPPORT health care reform WITH a government run public option and the republican party has the lowest approval ratings in the history of either party.

Glenn and Rush may tell you differently, Walter, but they're lying to you. As always, the right-wing neocons use the neediest and most ignorant members of our society to fight against their own best interests.

Remember how the Republicans fought medicare with the same lies and propaganda so long ago? Now ask any American who has medicare if they would like to go with out - No takers? Of course not. And once health care reform passes we will be on the road to single payer - That's right, a government take over.

The only thing I think is missing from the health reform bill is that there is no provision that anyone who is against it, some like you for instance, Walter, should not be eligible or should be forced to give up their medicare. Then we could finance health care for the sane." Oct 25, 09 6:30 PM

Who was it who gave all those trillions of dollars in tax cuts to the "hollywolf types" in the first place? Or have you forgotten about the disaster named George W. Bush?" Oct 25, 09 6:33 PM

That IS health care reform, Walt. If you followed the debate more closely you would know that one proposal is to cut rates paid to doctors and hospitals or to negotiate for lower rates, just like medicare. So, if you supported real reform you'd get exactly what you want." Oct 26, 09 10:46 AM

That percentage represents billions of dollars and DOES NOT include the billions, that's right, billions with a "b" they paid to their CEO's and lobbyists. Razza, you have been completely brainwashed. No joke. Anyone who would stand up for the private health insurance industry is either and industry insider or completely out of touch.;" Oct 26, 09 5:53 PM

I am the CEO of a private insurance company." Oct 27, 09 8:24 AM

I am a small business owner who must consider what is best for me, my family, AND my employees. I do not have the luxury of selfishness, like those of you who work in the corporate health care field. I don't have a company to pay my premiums, I do it myself. And I am not asking the government to do it for me either, I am asking the government to create compeition. After all, isn't that what capitalism is all about, competition? How can you be a free market capitalist and not support competition?
The public option would be paid for by PREMIUMS PAID BY INDIVIDUALS - just like private insurance. It would have to follow the same guidelines and rules - it is a choice. A choice you do not have to make. AND it actually reduces the deficit over ten years because insuring people costs a lot less than caring for the uninsured.

Neocons like yourself think private enterprise is the answer to everything despite the fact that it was private enterprise that brought this country to the verge of collapse and GOVERNMENT that saved it from the brink. Same thing happened during the great depression and would never have happened again had it not been for Reagan and Bush deregulating everything.

Listen, you Bushies had your chance and for eight years did nothing more than give away trillions of dollars to the rich and get this country involved in two of the longest, most expensive and worthless wars ever. Elections have results and now that it is our turn, now that the progressives have a voice, you're going to have to live with us and our policies. You are representative of about 20% of the American population and you can either evolve or not." Oct 27, 09 8:37 AM
