Town housing officials walk out of civics meeting in East Quogue

As I said, I agreed that her analogy to her own life was ludicrous, but hat does not mean that this issue is about her. It is not. It is about providing housing for teachers, policemen, firemen, restaurant workers, newlyweds, etc.

I have read a number of your comments and the fact is that you will use any topic as a way to attack Democrats. It is just a distraction from real issues facing every day people." Oct 2, 09 8:50 AM

My parents bought their first home in the early sixties for about $14,000.00 - they needed a mortgage to do it, but it was still within the realm of reality. A $500,000.00 home is NOT affordable for middle class workers. Putting down $65,000.00 is not within reach. The prices simply do not equate.

Many people try to make this about "working hard". As if people who qualify for affordable housing are just lazy. This anti-government sentiment running through this country and this county is completely out of control. There is room for government to do good without all of this nonsensical "government take over hysteria". You know why millions of people were able to buy homes in the 1950's? It was called the GI bill - the government helped them." Oct 2, 09 8:57 AM

You are completely misrepresenting the issue. Take a look at Tuffy's rebuttal to your assertions. The housing is for people who live in the community first." Oct 2, 09 9:09 AM

Mr. Wheeler, it is clear you troll these boards looking to knock the democratic party. I agree with fcmcmann. The FOUR POINTS specifically noted that she was responding to were: 1) is for immigration reform 2) supports same sex marriage 3) NY civil liberties union likes him 4) supports term limits. What does any of that have to do with your rant? How many democrats do you know that are supporting Guldi? " Oct 4, 09 5:27 PM

McGintee resigns as East Hampton supervisor

Actually, our towns financial ruin can be linked directly back to Cheney and Bush economic policies (shared by a Republican run town board in control for way too many years) and, in turn, the traffic: Tax breaks to the rich have destroyed the middle class and allowed the wealthy to build and consume with impunity. Very astute of you, Razzaa, I am glad we agree on something." Oct 6, 09 8:24 AM

Southampton Village officials ask voters to approve new firehouse

Is there a way to do this for less? Modify the existing building, maybe. It just seems that, given the state of the economy and the strain on local budgets, this is an expense that should be kept to the bare minimum needed to address the problems with the current firehouse. " Oct 7, 09 11:29 AM

Kabot's proposed $78 million budget will eliminate 48 town jobs next year

Cuts in the youth bureau? Are you kidding? Hey Linda, the boulder might be too big to push up the mountain, but you spent the last 13 years increasing its size. This is nothing more than a gimmick to appease blood thirsty republican voters and deflect your DWI charge. Our fiscal problems are the result of criminal mismanagement of which Linda played a huge role, to say she is the right person to fix it is sheer lunacy! " Oct 7, 09 3:08 PM

Agreed. This is the easy way out, but it will appease her base who hate unions and could care less about helping out troubled youth. It is nothing more than an indiscriminate hatchet job by one of the people responsible for the town's financial mess. Time to go, Linda. " Oct 7, 09 3:12 PM

You Kabot supporters sure know how to spin a story. How long has Linda been on the town board? 13 years? So after thirteen years of mismanagement and nearly criminal fiscal neglect Linda says, "I am going to fix it" and she pulls out her hatchet and starts swinging. It is always those on the lower rungs that are the victims of the failure of leadership at the top.

The best place to start is with Linda's position. Get rid of her and then fix her mess. " Oct 8, 09 8:07 AM

It is not about putting animals in front of families. It is about concern for both, which is the sane and humane thing to do." Oct 8, 09 9:21 AM

Proposed change to Southampton Village code would allow archers to shoot deer on their property

Your posting makes what appear to be a number of factual statements like "Keep in mind that these hunters are expert marksmen & rarely miss." I don't want to accuse you of making things up, so I thought you should be given you the opportunity to support your facts with some actual statistics or data for those of us who might be inclined to question your assertions.

Firstly, you refer to "these" hunters. As far as I can tell, neither the proposed law nor the article has specifically stated that the law would only apply to a defined classification of "these" or "these expert marksmen". And how does one verify that "these" hunters are "expert marksmen"? Will they all be tested by the village? Will they be asked to provide some sort of expert archer certification? Of course, we'd first have to actually define "expert". Are these hunters "experts" at shooting stationary targets or "experts" at shooting fast moving targets in close proximity to humans? But let's not get bogged down in details just yet.

You also assert that "there has never been anyone shot by a hunter with a bow and arrow on Long Island." Never? Never on all of Long Island? Where did you find this statistic and does this include those who've lived here throughout all of human history or just those that you've known and/or met?

You have said that "these expert marksmen" "rarely miss". Assuming that you can prove that the proposed legislation only applies to "expert marksmen" can you then follow that up with a clear explanation of "rarely"? On second thought, not necessary, "rarely" implies that they do not "always" hit their target, which in turn implies that you already support the possibility of an accident every now and then.

Lastly, you refer to deer as "bastards" and "them". You appear to believe that the deer, or "they" are capable of reasoning and that "they" are perhaps intentionally ignoring the rules of their human counterparts. If that is the case, couldn't we just politely ask the deer to go elsewhere and see how they respond? " Oct 13, 09 11:47 AM

Who could argue with such a well thought out and intelligent posting? By the way, a bastard is an illegitimate child and the term does not apply to animals, who, unless they've told you otherwise, do not marry." Oct 15, 09 1:22 PM
