Two administrations ago then Supervisor Heaney criminally charged a very local family resident with offering him a bribe on a cell tower application. That resident was found not guily by a jury trial and then he went on to win a six figure civil suit against Heaney for his soliciting the subject bribe. The taxpayers of the Town of Southampton footed those settlement dollars. The criminal case was won by the defendant communication tower applicant and that former defendant then civilly sued Heaney for bribary sollicitation and prevailed for 100,000 taxpayer dollars. You don't settle a case for that amount of money if you're innocent, no way no how.
