Altschuler Challenges Bishop To Debate On Health Care

Outsourcing started under Clinton and it was approved by many union leaders. They said at the time it wouldn't cost any US jobs. Now, businessmen who participated in the outsourcing are being demonized. Clearly the Democrats and union officials are to blame for its implementation. Bishop voted for ObamaCare which most of us did not want. He will never have my vote because of this." Mar 28, 12 8:48 PM

Forces Tried To Oust Southampton Town Police Chief

Scalera-Preston has started out with a bang, but has no comment when asked. Southampton Town Board now has two come from the world of Brookhaven Town Republican politics. That will not bode well for Southampton taxpayers." Mar 31, 12 5:25 PM

Westhampton Beach Superintendent's Proposed Budget Pierces Tax Cap

Spot on, it starts with the School Board. When their makeup is comprised of administrators, teachers and relatives the taxpayers don't have a prayer in getting a fair shake." Mar 31, 12 5:43 PM

Town Criticized For Reopening East Quogue Marina

I agree, Algieri gives the impression that he speaks for all of EQ which he does not. The civic association represents a very small segment of the population. Differing opinions are not welcome and those who have them are ostracized. Kudos to the Town for allowing those who have docked their boats there the opportunity to continue to do so. Why not take advantage of the additional revenue in these tough economic times? The condition of the bulkhead is an issue the Town will need to deal with in the near future. It is not a top priority item at this time. Give the Supervisor the opportunity to correct any issues which the Town inherited when they bought the property. " Apr 5, 12 6:50 AM

Springs School Will Cut Teacher Positions To Stay Under Tax Cap

I would hope that all the employees in this school have given up any raises for the 2012-2013 school year. Before layoffs, it would be the the right thing to do. How about paying more more health care, etc.? The goal is everyone maintains their jobs in these tough economic times. In the future when the economy turns around you can revisit some of these items. There are many things the employees can do if they pull together." Apr 6, 12 6:47 AM

Southampton Police Chief May Face New Challenge

Again Preston-Scalera has no comment. Seems to me she had plenty to say and was always available when she was running for office. Let's see, she has been in office less than 4 months. As a former Assistant Town Attorney in Brookhaven she must have some working knowledge of the legalities of this issue. Perhaps she just needs more time like in the Comptroller Wright debacle. " Apr 7, 12 1:38 PM

Westhampton Beach School Board Adopts $51.8 Million Budget

Nope, but perhaps the answer might be for a higher voter turnout at budget time. Many complain, but do they take the time to vote? Just because you don't think you can make a difference in the outcome is no reason not to vote. Voter apathy is why things in many school districts have gotten out of control." Apr 7, 12 1:49 PM

Southampton Police Chief May Face New Challenge

Rhetoric? Let's be realistic, this is Southampton politics with two factions warring over the Chief position. The Republicans on the board don't want the Chief and want to bring in their own person because THEY did not choose him. Same thing happened with the Wright position. It is about power and control, not what is best for the taxpayers of Southampton. Unless this man has committed some form of malfeasance while in his position leave him alone. How about for once these politicians do what is right for the taxpayers? Oh, I forgot the election is over and they don't need our vote anymore." Apr 8, 12 6:57 AM

Southampton Town PBA Officer Receives Anonymous Threats

Fishy or not, its common practice to have an outside law enforcement agency conduct the investigation. Given what has been going on in Southampton I would expect nothing less. Using the mail to send any threat could prove problematic if they can trace the origin." Apr 11, 12 6:40 PM

Bishop, Altschuler and Demos Sound Off On House GOP Budget

Obama care which Bishop voted for has taken money from Medicare and seniors. " Apr 12, 12 7:32 PM

Drink some more kool-aide philathome." Apr 14, 12 12:59 PM

Philathome are you on the staff of Bishop for Congress? ObamaCare hopefully will be ruled unconstitutional............but then again Obama knows best for all of us. Did you think that perhaps you are the one who needs anti-psychotics? Personally attacking those who disagree with your point of view shows you have tunnel vision and cannot enter into any meaningful dialogue." Apr 15, 12 8:56 AM

Code Enforcement Officer Among Six Netted In Drug Sting

Very interesting if it is true. If so, he should have noted that on his employment application for Southampton Town which would have been forwarded to Suffolk County Civil Service. If he witheld this information on the application it would be grounds for immediate dismissal. " Apr 20, 12 5:51 PM

The question now is, did he disclose all this on his employment application when he was hired for his position in Southampton Town? The Supervisor should be looking into his employment application he submitted. If he did not disclose this, he filed a false instrument and that is grounds for dismissal. There is a process in place to protect both the Town and Mr. Tumbarello's due process rights. One would hope that the Town's labor counsel is looking into this. " Apr 22, 12 7:59 AM

One does not check himself into rehab if they are innocent of any wrongdoing in this situation. Dealing cocaine and prescription drugs is not using for one's own personal consumption. Many try to "game" the legal system by checking themselves into rehab alleging they have an addiction to use this defense in court. Maybe you would allow your children contact with him knowing that perhaps he has been selling drugs, but many others would not want to take the chance with their children. I feel sorry for his family for the grief he has caused them. But if he is found guilty, he should be sent away. I would not welcome a convicted drug dealer in my community." May 1, 12 1:10 PM

East Quogue Civic Discusses Marina, Cell Tower At Spring Meeting

Having attended the civic meeting, all had the opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns. I do not always agree with Mr. Algieri, but he is one of the few who has stepped up to the plate about important issues in this community. Many who reside in EQ can't even take the time to vote on issues of importance. The fire budget, school budget, etc. These same residents whine about everything and are being hypocritical by not voting. The cell tower issue is less about the lack of communication and more about the paltry sum of money erecting the tower would provide the district. Is it really worth it to have a divided community? Other alternatives have not been explored and that alone is suspect. The marina at some point needs to be brought up to code if the Town is going to continue to run it. Allowing it to continue as a marina is a good thing for our community." May 2, 12 7:11 AM

Code Enforcement Officer Among Six Netted In Drug Sting

If Mr. Tumbarello is found guilty of dealing drugs, he is surely no role model for the children in the community. A dealer is known to those who need either the cocaine or prescription pills. A person desperate to obtain either puts those around Mr. Tumbarello at risk. A role model does not sell either cocaine or prescription pills. How many individuals has Mr. Tumbarello helped by dealing drugs?" May 2, 12 2:11 PM

East Quogue's $22.4M School Budget Does Not Pierce Tax Cap

Police Suspension May Hint At Issues In Department

Where was Nuzzi? If four votes were cast by councilpersons to suspend this individual, there must be something amiss. Unless Nuzzi had a good reason not to be there, his absence is suspect. " May 4, 12 6:34 PM

What you fail to mention is that the suspension was unanimous 4-0. Nuzzi was absent. Whatever the issue, it was enough to cause the entire Town Board to vote for suspension. Kiernan will have the opportunity to have his side heard at a hearing. The Board could have suspended him without pay, thus he was able to maintain his medical benefits. My question is, why was Nuzzi absent for this very important issue in Southampton Town? The residents provide a handsome salary and benefit package to Nuzzi and at the very least he should have attended this special Town Board meeting. Something smells here and one would hope the Press can get to the bottom of it." May 5, 12 9:17 AM

No Challengers In East Quogue School Board Race

How about doing something really good for the children, like properly vetting potential employees before they are hired? Anyone who comes in contact with the children needs to have a complete background check. " May 9, 12 7:11 AM

Randy Altschuler Unveils Jobs Plan

ObamaCare which Bishop supported and the majority of his constituents did not is a game changer in this election. Bishop forgot where he came from when he supported this measure. He cares more for Washington than us." May 9, 12 7:16 AM

Police Suspension May Hint At Issues In Department

One would think that the filing of 32 charges against a Southampton Police lieutenant is very important in Southampton. Now the Suffolk DA has seized records and both Federal and State law enforcement have not advised the Southampton Police on any investigations. Just what is going on here?

"not everything in this world, or this town for that matter, is a conspiracy"

Perhaps not, southfork...............but obviously something is going on here, one hopes the Federal and State law enforcement share their concerns with the appropriate authorities.

Why were certain members of the Southampton Town Board trying to have new chief, Wilson removed? Did he uncover wrongdoing of connected member(s) of the Southampton Town Police? If this is true, this should be investigated also.

There are many questions here and I hope "The Press" will keep on top of this story." May 9, 12 11:56 AM

Wilson Receives Another Inquiry About Leaving Southampton Town

Just who from the Southampton Town Republican leaders wanted the chief to leave? Perhaps, Southampton needs the Feds to investigate the police department and the current Town Board with respect to these issues. Just who is involved in trying to entice the chief to resign? We need transparency in Southampton Town!!!!! Keep at it, Southampton Press........." May 9, 12 2:35 PM

D.A.'s Government Corruption Bureau Seizes Southampton Police Records

All the Southampton residents need to be concerned with the following.

Federal and State law enforcement have kept Southampton Police out of the loop on all investigations within Southampton Town.

A call such as this would have to be made by high ranking officials in both Federal and State law enforcement. There must be some reason why this was done. This alone should be very troubling to all Southampton Town residents.

I hope that the Southampton Press continues to press for the truth here........the residents need to know. Thank you, Southampton Press." May 10, 12 8:22 AM
