Press News Group Files Lawsuit Against Southampton School District Seeking Details Of Former Superintendent's Departure

Tax payers have a right to know how their money is spent. The BOE hired an outside lawyer even though they have a lawyer who is included in their yearly budget. The BOE has no real incentive to be careful with our tax money if we are unable to determine how they are spending it. They are accountable. The Press as well as the tax payers in the district have every right to the facts. Then if tthe BOE members' actions are not in keeping with their mission to be responsible to the taxpayers, they must be replaced at the next election.

Trial Run For Trash Attendant At East Hampton Beach Goes Well

Why not put go-pro cameras up to ward them off? And signs indicating that they are being videotaped. In addition, a rental lease should require a garbage pickup contract for the duration of the rental. Or put a surcharge on rental agreements that pays for extra garbage pickups during July and August at beaches and on main streets." Sep 3, 16 7:42 AM

Southampton School Board To Hold Special Meeting To Discuss Future Of Superintendent Position

More secrecy from people who are in charge of over 70% of our tax dollars. This is inexcusable behavior once again by the members of the Board of Education. Or, if they are going to simply hide everything from the public, please do away with any positions in the budget that pertain to public information or community information. The taxpayers have a right to know how and why our money is spent. The board obviously feels we don't." Nov 4, 16 6:53 AM

Good idea. But I don't think it's legal. You would have to get rid of the job of assistant superintendent job that Dyno held, There are way too many administrators getting big salaries and benefits. If it's possible to reduct the load that would be great news.

UPDATE: Southampton Village Board Cancels Meeting And Postpones Public Hearing On Zoning Changes

You can build a huge garage if you wish but in the new plan it would be counted in the GFA. The 800 square feet is not counted in the GFA." Feb 10, 17 11:46 AM

UPDATE: Southampton Town Officials Work To Clean Up Icy Roads

What happened to "pretreating" the roads? This seems to work in places where the administration and the workers get ahead of the game. The snow removal in both the Village and the Town of Southampton is less than it should be. Why?

UPDATE: Community To Rally For New Pole For Riverside Osprey Nest

I loved seeing them year after year. They should erect a stand for the nest
nearby and they should have tried to save the nest and place it on the new
stand. Shame on them. These osprey had a big following. I am going to miss them. " Apr 10, 18 8:52 AM

Study Predicts Southampton School District Student Population To Shrink 22 Percent Over Next Ten Years

Reduction in school population would allow the "administration" to move into the actual school building. With fewer students, some space will be open for offices.

Stretch Of County Road 39 Closed After Crash Brings Down Power Lines Onto Roadway

It might be wise to put police on side roads or in parking lots to monitor speeding in both directions from 6 to 9 and from 3-7 each day. This seems like a no-brainer. Where is the law enforcement that advances PUBLIC SAFETY?" May 3, 19 7:43 AM

Donations For Southampton Village Fourth Of July Parade Continue To Decrease, Causing Some Worry About Its Future

It has gotten too big. Too many fire trucks, too much of everything. It lasts too long. " Jul 3, 19 4:28 PM

Southampton Village Mayor Proposes Plan To Turn Vacant Storefronts Into An Art Exhibit

The Village tried this in the past and it just fizzled out. This is not a new idea. Implementing it with art that is high quality from local artists is the challenge. And getting landlords to sign on is another.

Southampton Village Mayor Looks To Bring Surf School Back In Time For August

There are many group lessons and private at our beaches every day. These "schools" take up parking spaces that should be for the use of village residents. Check out the trucks parked all day with lots of surf boards in the back. There never has been enforcement of the surf schools and they mayor and trustees have put forth no plan. So the residents have no place to park at our beaches and the surf schools rule the beaches. This is no way to run a village. Lots of talk and a failure to provide any coherent plan to enforce the rules. It is a shame that the trustees and mayor seem to inept already. And do taxpayers have to pay for the enforcement and perhaps insurance if the village gets part of the fees paid to the surf schools? Who bears the burden of liability? This is inept and unfortunate for village residents who deserve a parking spot at a local beach and a peaceful beach experience. At this point we get neither." Jul 24, 19 7:22 AM

Southampton Town Taxpayers Responsible For Police Overtime Associated Presidential Visit

Perhaps they should ask the Trump Campaign to reimburse them. We don't need this extra expense. They raised a lot of money and should be more sensitive to the costs.

Southampton Town Designates Additional Funds To Fix Southampton African American Museum Construction Flaws

I think the public deserves a better explanation of who hired the contractor, who approved the contracts and how the inspections were carried out. This should not have happened and the tax payers get to pay for this. " Sep 13, 19 9:15 AM

UPDATE: Southampton Village Mayor Discharges Two Attorneys From Duties

Perhaps a thorough audit of the time the police work and what they do is in order so the public and the government can ascertain how many policemen are needed and what jobs they should do. As a matter of public safety the village should retain policemen to help with traffic on weekdays at rush hours on the highway and certainly on weekends in the summer in the village. In addition, it should be a matter of public safety for policemen to help with traffic when an accident or incident closes Hill Street or CR39. If policemen will not do the job, then the government should find others who can be tasked with this public safety issue. Maybe we need more officers who can handle traffic and fewer who do others jobs.
