UPDATE: Travel Restrictions Lifted But Residents Asked To Stay Off Roadways As Recovery Continues

Salaried employees of the village with plenty of equipment were just getting Main and Jobs Lane cleared at 9:30 this morning. Businesses struggle in the winter
and the less than timely approach to sidewalks and streets in the district has been
going on for years. Who is in charge? How is this happening yet again? " Jan 28, 15 10:31 AM

Billionaire Ira Rennert On Trial For Allegedly Looting Company To Build Sagaponack Estate

This is where restrictive zoning about the size of a house would have protected the community. Now what will become of that enormous white elephant of a house that Mr. Rennert built?

Local Push To Save Pyrrhus Concer Homestead Gaining Traction

It's too late now. I think the ferry on Lake Agawam is already an eyesore and makes what once was a peaceful park more like Disneyland. Now a fake old house across the street? This whole situation shows the ignorance and folly
of our local government. Time to get some new faces to weigh in on these matters.

Tuckahoe School District Agrees To One-Year Tuition Deal With Southampton

Chris Dyer is always looking out for himself. He said he was leaving but when the pay at his new position wasn't as enormous as what he was getting in Tuckahoe, he decided to stay put. He has shown no leadership is cutting costs and has no vision other than to keep spending on himself and other bloated aspects of the huge budget in the district. Why would anyone lister to what he has to say?" Feb 24, 15 7:52 PM

He isn't pushing a merger as much as pushing to get rid of the two percent tax cap. Spending, more spending and more spending is what he's talking about.
That's what he knows how to do so well.

Forum On Public Education Urges Parents To Opt Out Of Common Core Testing

Anna should be respectful of every speaker. Her nasty replies to Nancy McGann were inappropriate. So is the zone change. Nobody "needs" another grocery store and the traffic impact will make is nearly impossible to go to this one if it's
built. Time to step back and look at what big developers are doing to the quality of life issues out here like water, power, traffic, noise and safety. That's what good government should do. Southampton town and village officials should start before it's too late. " Mar 27, 15 8:31 AM

Workforce Housing Fund Would Tax Construction Of Large Homes

Building is turning Eastern Suffolk into Nassau. Shopping centers, ugly enormous condo complexes and old small houses destroyed and huge new
one put up in their place. The building bonanza can't continue much longer since there will be no place to build. And a lot of the workers have businesses outside our area so this will not help our local workforce. So why all the fuss? And more taxes. The CPF funds are used selectively and do not benefit the communities that put in all the money. It's not fair. No thank you. " May 15, 15 9:44 AM

Southampton Hospital Donor Audrey Gruss Hopes Heart And Stroke Center Will Save Lives

Such a generous gift and so well thought out. I am in awe of Audrey and
Martin Gruss for their thoughtful and truly philanthropic gift to the community.
Thank you. " May 16, 15 5:03 AM

UPDATE: Neighbor Slaps Southampton Justice With Defamation Suit Over Remarks, Wilson Withdraws Application

Wilson has acted with such entitlement and with little regard for the process at the ARB over the past six months. I am amazed that Mr. Highsmith has allowed her to behave in ways that are not proper. I would never vote for her again. She is way out of line. The neighbors opposing her "deck/stairway" have been made to wait endlessly while Ms. Wilson fails to prove her case at every meeting. It is shameful behavior from one who should know better. People in power in the village take liberties that should not be tolerated. This is a case in point. I hope the neighbor wins his suit." Jun 5, 15 8:42 AM

" Jun 6, 15 11:33 AM

Barbara Wilson is the provocateur. She chained the cars, she insinuated the
neighbor is a pedophile. She feels entitled to have a deck which two other neighbors also object to so please get your facts straight. I am happy that at least for now, Judge Wilson has pulled herself out of a mess she created. I applaud
her for doing so.

Southampton Town Cab Drivers Protest Uber Thursday Afternoon

I am not impressed by the quality or safety of the cabs in Southampton town.
And I have been overcharged when there was more than one stop involved.
Uber might just make these people realize that we won't put up with the
high prices and the filthy cabs if we are not desperate. So Uber should be
encouraged to work out here. We need extra rides on weekends to prevent
drunk driving anyway. Competition and oversight for the local cabs would be
nice but the town does not monitor the condition of the cabs and drivers or
the price gouging.

Southampton Builder Paints American Flag On His House To Exercise Property Rights

Mr. White paints a rosy picture of himself which is full of information that misinforms. If he doesn't want to call himself a "spec" builder then he is a
builder who works for "spec builders." He has a high estimation of his taste and
his rights. Some of us who aren't looking to turn over houses to make a living
but just want to live here in peace and quiet see him and the rest of the spec
builders as people assaulting our property rights and our enjoyment of our property.

Bill To Extend CPF Tax And Tap It For Water Quality Efforts Could Be Approved By End Of The Year

The only thing that will preserve the character of the villages is less residential development. The unbridled increase in residential land development by spec builders financed by big money interests is going to obliterate the character of
Southampton, Water Mill, Bridgehampton and Easthampton. Only by tightenng zoning and restricting development can open land and resources including water by saved. It's time to think about the massive influx of people who drain all our resources including water and power. " Jul 29, 15 8:10 AM

Complaints Of Overcrowding On LIRR Trains To The East End Continue

How about a few additional trains. I guess that's too difficult for the MTA to
Deane and call and complain. Also contact state officials who represent the EastEnd. There is no excuse for this." Aug 21, 15 10:00 AM

UPDATE: Rapper's Manager Disputes Claim That Assistant Principal Heard Song For Music Video

Vote every member of the Board of Education OUT at the elections in May of
each year. This is the only way to clean up the situation in Southampton that is bloated with administrators and consultants to an extreme that is a disgraceful waste of money with a poor result in education. This is the only way to fix the problem. In the meantime, go to BOE meetings and insist that positions be cut from the budget and that a plan to save money is on every agenda. " Oct 20, 15 9:51 AM

Suffolk County Planning Commission Votes Against Tuckahoe Shopping Center Zone Change

They cannot put in a high in-and-out traffic establishment there without the zone change. This is a victory for not allowing even more traffic problems on the already dangerous CR39, In the past two years there were 34 traffic accidents
on the road near the Magee Street intersection. That alone should put the nix on a zone change. And by the way, zone changes fail to protect property owners who have invested in an area where the parameters for building and traffic have been defined. " Dec 4, 15 9:18 AM

Proposed Sewer District Would Impact Southampton Inn Owner In Many Ways

No one could opt out of the taxes. And it appears that the mayor is going to push this through without letting the tax payers vote on it. Can't agree more with chief1 that without the school, Inn and Latch, the whole project seems to be for developers to increase density. And agree with Obserever that storm water runoff is what plagues Lake Agawam. This whole project is poorly thought out and very poorly handled in terms of letting the tax payers have a say in it." Southampton Town Plans To Regulate Uber Service

How about regulating the price of a ride. Drivers pick up more than one person and then charge the going rate for each stop. Plus the cabs are dirty and dangerous. Before prohibiting competition, regulation of the existing taxi cabs must go into effect. Mr. Glinka should try riding in a few cabs to discover how dismal the service is and how expensive it is today." Feb 10, 16 7:53 AM

Tuckahoe School Superintendent Resigns

How much is that going to cost?" Mar 8, 16 7:03 AM

UPDATE: Farina Denies Rumored Allegations Regarding Explicit Photo

I do think it is a good lesson to kids that selfies and other internet disclosures might be more serious than they believe. As for the district, it's bloated with money and there seems no way to discard the useless excesses that are inherent in the system. Time to stop spending so much money and stop giving each other awards and get down to studying. " Mar 18, 16 12:12 PM

UPDATE: Farina Will Receive Nearly $300,000 After Resigning From Superintendent Position

A merger just encourages more financial misconduct. It is time to get new Trustees elected this May for the BOE and to start asking about how money is spent. The district wastes money on all kinds of unnecessary people and extras. How about having really good teachers, and up to date technology instruction? That would do a lot toward making these kids productive members of society once they get out of the place where hundreds of thousands of dollars is spent to videotape a game, and extras like a marine biology lab and a planetarium are in place for a mere 1,600 students. Back to basics. And get rid of any vice principal or superintendent. Any administrator position that is not mandated by law should be cut immediately. That would be a start." Apr 19, 16 12:59 PM

Southampton Elementary Principal Cookie Richard Reflects Before Retirement

Stop adding administrators. The New York law requires a superintendent and a principal but not a vice-principal. Let's reduce the administration load at our schools and start saving some money. Our school district is bloated with extra administrator that is costing the tax payers a fortune. This is an opportunity to move in the right direction." Apr 28, 16 7:47 AM
