Upcoming Changes For Southampton Town Leaf Program

I think the Highway Dept has always done a really great job, from my emergence on the scene in the 60s to the very present. What has changed to my eye is that the larger properties no longer dispose of their leaves themselves, and that now every single leaf makes it into the pile thanks to blowers. Volume has probably increased exponentially as a result. I have seen leaf piles grow over the years to be larger than a bus.
'Landscaping' companies ('mow & blowers') bear greater responsibility for our road condition by blowing yard mess and sand onto the middle of our streets each summer week, and by blowing the results of their fall-cleanups on the roads, instead ot the county strips, for town pickup. Proposed Remsenburg Subdivision Will Be Discussed During Thursday's Planning Board Meeting

Mr.C and son have done their part to develop responsibly and with style in our hamlet. Remsenburg is nothing if not new roads. Perhaps you live on a new road and didn't realize it...no one shut the gate on you. " Jul 15, 11 5:35 AM

Thank you to the Highway Dept for sending the road vacuums thru to clean up the mess the 'landscaping companies' ('mow and blowers') intentionally direct onto our roads. " Jul 22, 11 4:15 AM

In the old days, with Mr. S at the helm, the WHB A+P was the highest grossing unit in the whole system. And that was with the north side of the store devoted entirely to bottle deposit! " Jan 10, 12 1:58 PM

Sag Harbor ZBA Says 'Legs' Must Come Down

I think the gallery has consistantly found great ways to get their publicity into the news side of the paper. Seemingly an intense controversy each year with a multi-week life. Fighting encroaching irrelevancy is tough for all of us. I wish them well. " Apr 18, 12 6:03 AM

I appreciate when a person can plainly say 'I made the decision' after considering the variables. Right or wrong, short or long term, it shows they are comfortable with their role and accept their accountability under it. It goes to character. " May 23, 12 6:58 AM

Palmer And Urban Win Westhampton Beach Village Trustee Election; No Surprises In Quogue

Perhaps 'move this village along' is too harsh; during the Mayor's recent office WHB got sorely needed sidewalks and a library that wasn't architecturally or functionally obsolete the day it opened. For me, his biggest contribution is keeping the village from turning into a border town. And he is always informally accessible to you for your concerns during breakfast, dog walks, etc. Let's not suggest the village hasn't moved along; let's applaud that it hasn't slipped back. I wish I was a village resident to have been able to vote for Toni. Good luck to all. " Jun 16, 12 5:48 AM

Westhampton Beach Student Plans To Battle Hunger With Backpacks

Webmaster, please unlock this article so we can all learn online how we can give generously. So much (needed) attention is given to seniors for weekend care packages, it is delightful to learn people understand kids need bridge food too. When I was little, kids would go to school in torn shirts or patched pants, but absolutely refused to go if they had no shoes. My aunt donated a pair of shoes to every child in the district to fix this (the reality was only those that needed them took them, but knowing that everyone could have shoes made it easier for them to come get theirs). Please try to buy things you eat yourself, in my case cans of underwood chicken spread, dole mandarin orange slices, canned drinks etc would be most welcome. Thank you for stepping up to this good work! " Jul 6, 12 10:30 AM

Man Stabbed In East Hampton; Second Man Arrested

As long as almost everyone has gone off-topic, I would like to add my thought. My father was a perfect-work landscaper, and sometimes he would lose jobs because the client resented not seeing him sweat because he performed his work with control and finesse. These days I see hedges that used to take 1 day to clip taking 3 days..the hourly rate might be cheaper but the job ends up costing the same. The real difference is the client wanting to look out the window and feel baronial. " Aug 14, 12 9:46 AM

Gay-Lesbian Youth Support Group To Host Town Hall Meeting This Month To Discuss Teen's Suicide

I agree with BW's sentiment. If you keep handing your children over to experts, when it comes time for you to need care from them, they're going to hand you over to experts. And that you're not gonna like. " Oct 10, 12 11:31 AM

Again, I agree with BW's sentiment. In 2010, a number of young people around me came out as gay. Two years later, they're all straight. Next year, who knows. While the young people declare now, both times, they do not take it as seriously as we older folk would. It does not hold them back from change, in any/either direction. " Oct 10, 12 11:59 AM

Attorney Accuses Westhampton Beach Village Trustees Of Altering Audit

Well put. When I've been in audits, stakeholders receive a draft copy to review and offer corrections, as well suggestions as to tone and nuance. There are often multiple iterations. Both the auditors and stakeholders benefit from this, as an audit ultimately produces lessons learned, not smoking guns. The article suggests to me that the Board did not receive a draft copy. Westhampton Beach Village Attorney Refuses To Release Audit

First, I am not a resident of WH, WHB. So I dont believe I have the creds for a considered local opinion. But I do have a question. It's being stated that a difference between an audit and something else is whether it has or hasnt got an opinion..Don't all audits contain opinions and conclusions based on an interpretation of what's uncovered? Sustainability Plan Pushback Continues In Southampton Town

As some who likes LK and ATH, I confess I do not understand the issue at hand. I am not particularly quick or complex. But what I felt I got out of the discussion was that the marriage of a former supervisor was insulted. To me, insult the elected and the electorate is insulted. Perhaps the offensive BTW paragraph can be edited out. " Jun 27, 13 3:28 PM
