East End community struggling to recruit and retain doctors

The housing costs and the malpractice insurance has always been a problem here. Ten years ago there was another round of doctors that moved because they couldn't afford to live here. It is a wonderful place to live but it has become so over priced that doctors and other professionals can no longer afford to live here.. What is that saying about the community? I have heard many times what a small, limited hospital we have and that they will go to the city... There are many emergency occasions where people just won't make it to the city. .. or to Stony Brook ... this is our "infrastructure".. I hope the hospital and medical practices will be able to find new good doctors.. " Feb 16, 09 7:05 PM

Southampton Post Office's au naturel lawn turns heads

I'm with the others on the parking lot.. The lawn is way below on the list of priorities...

Seriously, who developed the parking lot plans? What a mess and constantly dangerous situation... How many accidents have there been in the parking lot and trying to get out of there???" Jun 7, 10 1:39 PM

No Lemonade For You; Seinfeld Lemonade Stand Shut Down in East Hampton Village

I think they are surrendering to the idiot complainer... The idea that kids can't have a lemonade stand is ridiculous..." Aug 27, 15 8:58 AM

It wuouldn't matter if they did it in front of their house... the proparty along the road is considered village property even though the homeowners maintain it. my guess is that they chose this location because it has better access to more people than where their house is but have no idea where their house is..

When we were kids, we used to have lemonade stands on "village property" and no one made us close down... it's just sad that it has come to this..." Aug 27, 15 9:20 AM

UPDATE: No Restraining Order Issued Between Westhampton Beach School And Killoran Family

Why should he be required to change schools? Change his world? WHB should adapt. By law, they are required to do so. It may not be the convenient thing to do but it is the right thing to do.

For those that say they have a nice little program all set up two towns over... Is that what you would want for your son/daughter? I don't think so... You would fight for your child's right to an education in their town, with their friends... Nothing more, nothing less... WHB should be fighting to keep him, not let him go...." Aug 31, 15 5:23 PM

No Lemonade For You; Seinfeld Lemonade Stand Shut Down in East Hampton Village

Property along the road is all public property and who cares if they had tables/props... they are trying to sell lemonade for charity... the only reason why they applied the law was because of the person complaining. I doubt any member of the police department wanted to shut down the lemonade stand. and this isn't politics... " Sep 1, 15 10:20 AM

Family Protests Outside Westhampton Beach School Over Controversial Special Needs Decision

Yes, bird... I have read everything and I've also worked in schools with children with needs that Aiden has and even more challenging. WHB is big enough and by 2015 should have a program in place to educate students like Aiden.

And yes, by law they are required to educate all children in their district including those that feed into their district..
that is what Remsenburg is.. They pay tuition so their students can go to WHB..

You are the one talking nonsense. stop worrying about the money. If you dont' want to pay taxes here.. move..." Sep 2, 15 12:01 PM

Maybe the board is WRONG.... and you, bird, are just providing your opinion as well... you have provided no "verifiable facts" either... Do you have children? Did they go to public school? How would you feel if your kid was not allowed to go to the school that all his/her other friends are going because he/she already has challenges? hmmm.. I bet you would be right where Aiden's parents are trying to get him the best education in his/her home town.. because... that's what you do for your kids...
the reality is that WHB has many schools feeding into it with many students requiring special education.. they are selecting certain special needs students to be "outsourced" to other school districts because it's more convenient.. they could provide the proper program and I'm sure several students would benefit from such program.... It would be better for this child and others like him to have the benefits afforded other children, to go to school with their friends and to have the best education they can... It can't all be about money...

the other fact, that you may not be aware of in Sag Harbor, since it's not a big district... is that WHB cannot afford for these "feeding" districts to not send their children there... that's an actual fact which was stated by the board in the past few years...
" Sep 3, 15 12:19 AM

You are ridiculous. I'm glad your kids turned out fine. My point was you fight for what your kids need. You don't just sit there and do what people want you until there is no others choice. At least I do not. And Everything you have said is your opinion. I did not demonize any program. I just think that the children should go to school with their friends and that a student should not change because a school district as large as WHB does not have a program to teach ALL of their children especially since there are many who would benefit. The parents have the right to fight for what they feel is on their child's best interest. I wish them well and I hope they win and WHB has to create a program for all their students just like many other larger districts have had to do. Goodbye" Sep 4, 15 7:41 AM

Bishop McGann-Mercy Diocesan High School In Riverhead To Close In June

There are many students that have gone from OLH to Mercy since Sr. Kathy became the principal at OLH.

In fact, if it wasn't for her and the families who support OLH, there probably wouldn't be an OLH.

The diocese has been closing/merging schools for more than 3 decades. They are known for doing it abruptly, with zero compassion or insight for the families affected. Sadly, it seems it's only gotten worse since the early 1980s. I wish all these students, their families and the teachers impacted by Mercy's closing and the closing/merging of the elementary schools on the North Fork all the best in making the best possible decisions they can. It will be a difficult task. " Mar 22, 18 1:22 AM
