Southampton Town Board Appoints Wilson As Police Chief

Fact of the matter is no one sat in on the interview process, no one knows what the town board was thinking. Tony has had a great career but just because he is Capt does not make him a Chief. The town board chose who they feel is the best candidate and while others on this board are giving opinions, i will also, I believe they have chosen the best candidate for that job out of who was interviewed." May 1, 11 1:35 PM

The uniforms were at the meeting to support the new incoming chief and you had representatives from all over the island. While I respect the people that got up and spoke on behalf of the Capt I can't help but ask where was the law enforcement support for him? I haven't once heard chief overton support the Capt for the spot nor any other person. I think that speaks loud and clear! I've also searched this site and the "others" and can't find a PBa endorsement anywhere. Was that Nancy just stirring the pot? Whether u think it's political or not change is what that dept needed, the town board chose the best candidate for the job" May 4, 11 7:25 AM

I've re read and I clearly stated if that's what YOU think. By no means do I think corruption is ok nor do I think corruption took place but that is your thought, which you are entitled to. The town board interviewed 5 candidates and chose the best that they felt would lead the dept the best." May 4, 11 9:21 AM

In watching the podcast it seems there were Sgt's there also in uniform. That leads me to believe that maybe its not just the PBA that thinks change is needed or it wasnt just a PBA conspiracy. An now we find out theres also an ethics complaint pending? " May 5, 11 12:10 PM

Southampton Town Board Adopts 2012 Budget With $63.8 Tax Levy

What Mr Malone so graciously did yesterday was eliminate positions within the Police Department without actually coming out and saying it, the board voted down the the chiefs technology upgrade but now also want to fire or lay off police officers? where's the service to the town.....The board and the new police chief is faced with an uphill battle in trying to move the police dept forward in a place that was stagnant for the last 40 years under the old regime.

Also if Malone touts himself as such a "Numbers Guy" and the PD budget accounts for a majority of the towns operating budget then why is it the least amount on your town taxes........we pay more for our library and volunteer fire department than the police dept. " Nov 19, 11 11:52 AM

Southampton Town Board Approves More Police Overtime

The chief took a patrol car off the road?! Nuzzi and Malone are clueless when it comes to this stuff, Chief Wilson is still acting within the constraints of the previous chiefs budget which is prob about the same as the 1960's budget. It appears that Chief Wilson is attempting to bring the police dept into this century as it was completely run poorly under the old regime (merely my opinion). Chief Wilson listened to the public ( something the previous chief did not) and added another sector car to protect the TAX PAYERS. Less fighting amongst the board this is getting ridiculous " Nov 30, 11 5:04 PM

The town board has yet to hire anyone even though the staffing has decreased drastically due to retirements, injury or the lack of technology project. Hire more officers, it will decrease the overtime! Its not rocket science, plus town taxes are being raised $24 per household this year. Not any of that money goes into the Police Fund yet that is the smallest everyone pays......" Nov 30, 11 6:00 PM

The fault for this stupendous overtime rests on the back of CHIEF OVERTON, his budget this year is what the present chief is trying to work off of, which the town council has stated was underfunded. Once again you are throwing ideas or suggestions around that you have absolutely no basis, do you know there hasnt been a restructuring or units shut to backfill the patrol force? Cause I dont and Im sure not jumping to conclusions. He's attempting to bring the police department out of the dark ages.......and deleting tours, really?? where do you come up with this stuff? " Dec 1, 11 5:24 PM

That's the complete police budget not the overtime budget, the article above states the ot budget was already underfunded and the town board knew about it." Dec 1, 11 11:35 PM

The salaries would be compatible to other long island police agencies as that's how collective bargaining works, I know you don't need that explained to you HHS. So you might want to complain about SCPD first and security services doing police services?! Now I've heard it all....." Dec 3, 11 11:05 AM

And the poverty level for a family of 4 on long island is $70000 where it's $25000 in the rest of the us. HHS point as always is he dislikes the town police, point taken now move on. " Dec 3, 11 11:31 AM

" Furthermore, its main role is as drunk driver catcher, a necessary task which, however, it performs by finessing probable cause with tacit consent from higher authority. This cavalier attitude towards professional conduct, learned from its superiors, imbues the ranks."

So your saying all the Town PD does is drunk driving arrests? When did you get one or are you and Linda still upset about hers. AND FURTHERMORE, if you hire the new officers like is needed the superior officers, "whos cavalier attitudes imbues the ranks", are gone so all should be well. And i agree with the other posters you have either not been hired, been overlooked for a promotion within or hold some ridiculous grudge against the STPD" Dec 5, 11 12:47 PM

Southampton Town Will End Year With Budget Surplus

I read an interesting article in a NYC paper this morning. Seems theirs allegations that Honest Jim Malone is using his political office to strong arm a contractor working on his Hampton Bays home. How come no local new outfits carry this?? " Jan 9, 12 12:44 PM

Union Deal Saves Southampton Town Cops From Chopping Block

A town this size? Southampton Town PD is the 3rd largest police department in Suffolk county encompassing 150 + square miles....seems about right to me.

And they havent taken a raise but have they tapped into there benefits at all. Two terms on the town board afford them free health benefits for LIFE" Jan 10, 12 1:19 PM

Contractor Claims Southampton Councilman Locked Him In Office After Worker Broke Into Home

and the plot thickens......Honest Jim Malone no more" Jan 10, 12 1:20 PM

District Attorney Investigating Reports Of Missing Southampton Town Police Records

Sounds like maybe there was some "privy" could this be why Tenaglia and Pearce were unsuccessful candidates. Maybe the town board knew alot more than what they led on and wanted a change" Mar 12, 12 2:28 PM

Politically Divided Southampton Town Board Names New Police Captain

Regardless of ur feelings of Pearce, the town board stooges added a position to the 2012 budget that was not there. What happened to fiscal responsibility, what happened to "money guy" jim Malone? What they did today made no sense, what was the other info that Bridget and Anna were speaking about? Why do I have a feeling some town board members might b back peddling soon. Something smells rotten" Mar 13, 12 5:35 PM

I would think any union wouldn't like it because it's putting a position into the budget that doesnt exist. From what I read every union in the town gave concessions. And I'm sorry, do u know something the public and Bridget isn't aware of? How do u know these issues have nothing to do with him?" Mar 13, 12 7:00 PM

A Capt isnt necessary for there to be an XO. It can be anyone from Sgt-LT. Someone who is appointed by the Chief" Mar 19, 12 10:05 AM

Southampton Town Could Soon See New Comptroller

This town board has yet to do anything that was right for the taxpayers, why would they start now??" Mar 20, 12 9:20 AM

Politically Divided Southampton Town Board Names New Police Captain

If Chief Wilson were to leave now he'd be giving in to what the town board wanted, after they were the ones who voted him in. The best thing for the town is for him to stand fast and run his department to get it out of the dark ages, the town definitely needs that. And Walt was there anyone with better qualifications? I think not" Mar 21, 12 12:45 PM

Forces Tried To Oust Southampton Town Police Chief

Because Overton made public safety his last priority.....he dropped cars and didn't care about the public or the officers on the road, best thing for this town is when him and his"cronie" Tenaglia retired" Mar 30, 12 5:56 PM

Of course its political, look at all the pictures that are on the Southampton Republican website, Kiernan is in a lot of them. I wonder if he's the "officer" that the board majority refuses to take Wilson's recommendation on discipline, now that would be political!!!" Apr 1, 12 8:20 PM

Southampton Police Chief May Face New Challenge

I hope some town board members read the comments listed above, it shows some opinions of the taxpayers that are the only ones being truly effected by the infighting and not allowing Chief Wilson to do his job. Give him a shot to do his job and bring the police department out of the dark ages!! My guess is we should be glad we didn't get the majorities choice for chief especially with the missing paperwork investigation, what else could or would there be? Give the man a shot, he's well respected and knows how to run a police department" Apr 8, 12 9:53 AM

Code Enforcement Officer Among Six Netted In Drug Sting

The only connection it has to wilson, it appears, is that some of these investigations that no one seems to want to talk about might have some truth to them. Wilson is trying to clean that department up and progress it forward from the past. And Mr. Tumbarello's political affiliations should mean nothing in this case, what this arrest should say to the Town Board is that the Chief is doing his job as a law enforcement professional and the civilian board can't be privy to everything, so let the man run his dept without interference. However if this was a reason why the majority was trying to get rid of Wilson its a complete misuse of governments power" Apr 20, 12 6:26 AM

Southampton Town Police Lieutenant Placed On Forced Leave

$220,000 for a total annual compensation, $100,000 more than his base? So when Pearce was promoted to Capt it was only an extra $14,000, Im sure the "Numbers Guy" Malone and Nuzzi took that into account about only wanted the public to know the lesser. Looks like they were trying to pull another fast one." May 2, 12 5:41 PM

While he does look like a qualified member of the department there is obviously a reason the chief put him on administrative leave, I would say the chief is doing his job. Also the article states that the chief has asked for his demotion and the town board has refused....again the chief attempting to do his job. The better question is why did the town board refuse, or which members? Could it be because the LT is a Republican committee man....yes let the politics STOP!!" May 3, 12 7:26 AM

Misfits arent in the department, your absolutely right, however the Chief by no means is a problem in this. He is cleaning house that is so desperately needed and morale in the department is up because of it. The shiny lettering and new patches mean nothing except an escape from the old regime. Dont blame the Chief for your friends leave of absence because Im guessing theres more to the story then meets the eye, the story states he's a crisis negotiator so Im sure he can spin the story however you'd like you to hear it. AND the chief listened to the residents of Flanders for the first time in 40 years and always manned the A20 car, so please dont disrespect the fine residents of Flanders by claiming you live there." May 3, 12 4:54 PM

Police Suspension May Hint At Issues In Department

A unanimous vote across party lines? That says one of two things, either the town board is finally thinking about the public and logically voting ( of course not Nuzzi) or these charges are so bad they had to act" May 4, 12 6:29 PM

This wouldn't happen if tenaglia was in?! Are u kidding me? Lucky he didn't get in and that's good for the township. Also what YOU fail to mention is that of course they've only heard the chiefs side, he is the top law enforcer in the town and brought his findings to them. The good Lt will have his day to speak his case but I hope it's a good case ESP with the 4-0 vote to suspend.
And Tennyson, uve posted that ur a retired county sgt. You of all people should know what a laughing stock the Stpd was to the law enforcement community under the old management. Before saying Chief Wilson is in over his head how about u wait until all the facts are out. And in scrolling thru pictures from the Chiefs swear in I found supervisors, po's, chiefs of police from Southampton town and outside agencies supporting Wilson. How bout the politics get pushed aside and let the man do his job" May 5, 12 12:14 PM

D.A.'s Government Corruption Bureau Seizes Southampton Police Records

So the files where moved by Capt Tenaglia before his retirement and the "changing of the guard"? I wonder what he was trying to hide from years past. I wonder if he'll get called in to speak about what he knows or is he safe because he quickly retired on an injury. I hope the DA gets to the bottom of all of this" May 9, 12 3:21 PM

Of course someone is running the police dept, thats what Chief Wilson was put in place to do. I guess by him running it he's uncovered alot of shady tactics that the Overton/Tenaglia administration did and he, along with other agencies are now bringing them to light. Politics at its worst is what some of the town board members are doing, I hope Marietta and Tenaglia are comfy on the beach in the Keys pulling the strings of the puppets up North, seems like the parties over....." May 10, 12 10:25 AM

Chief Wilson Marks A Tumultuous 12 Months

Its been a circus for the last 30 years with the Ringleaders Overton and Tenaglia, Wilson seems to have inherited a mess with the Town Police but he's forging ahead for the sake of the Town and its employees by uncovering the old dealing...." May 16, 12 9:51 PM

In Light Of Police Files Investigation,Tenaglia Claims No Wrongdoing

Does someone have a guilty conscience or is that just Marietta telling him what to say as usual? Hope retirement is treating you well, the party seems to just be getting started." May 16, 12 9:55 PM

Police Union Calls For Investigation Into Leaks

Im sure its not the union as a whole but the Old Regime that is still in play in it. President Robert Pearce and Vice President Anthony Tenaglia Im sure have alot to hide from the last 20 or so years that they are still trying to protect, so they will continue to try and pull the wool over the eyes of the public" Jun 1, 12 10:35 PM
