11 rescued pups find new hope at town shelter

OK lets try this again. Is this the same Animal Shelter that recently abolished the Veterinary Technician position in the name of saving money? While I agree with rescuing the pups I think the Town is being hypocritical when they say they are trying to save money and then go out of the Town to rescue dogs, don't we have enough here? This is also the Shelter that makes you provide you license when you turn in a pet to make sure you are a resident of Southampton Town. Why can't someone from Brookhaven come and turn their pets in Southampton Town if the Shelter is going to SC to get puppies. Heck why don't we let all of Long Island bring their animals to the shelter so our tax payers can pay for them. Don't get me wrong. I am glad the puppies have been rescued but perhaps bringing animals from out of our area should be left to private shelters like ARF who get private donations. " Feb 4, 09 5:11 PM

There is a law that requires animals that are crossing state lines to have health certificates. When someone is taking thier animal with them to another state or country they must get a health certificate from a Veterinarian saying that the animal is free of diseases. In this way we HOPE to keep diseases from being moved from one state to another. Transporting raccoons from one state up to Penn. is how Rabies moved so quickly up the Eastern Coast. Did these puppies get health certificates? If so who paid the Veterinarian down in SC because it has to be BEFORE the animal is shipped. Are we now sending tax payers money out of State? If they didn't recieve health certificates isn't the Town risking bringing diseases that we don't ususally have in this area to our animals?" Feb 5, 09 8:40 AM

And what were the older dogs in the kennels doing when everyone was slobbering over the puppies? Sitting there waiting.........." Feb 6, 09 7:23 AM

Supervisor has bone to pick over councilwoman's dog

I think the issue here is that Ms. Throne-Holst is putting herself above everyone else! What happens if everyone employeed at Town Hall brings thier pet to work? Or perhaps every visitor brings in thier pets when they have business at Town hall. While I love being with my pets, and do bring them to work with me periodically that is why I chose the profession I did so I would be given that opportunity. Perhaps Ms Throne-Holst should start working at the animal shelter on a daily basis so she can have animals around her all day long and maybe she would see what is REALLY going on there " Mar 9, 09 4:27 PM

Town says Riverside home was overcrowded and infested

I am an American citizen and while I don't agree with illegal immigrants being here, not paying taxes, getting free health care etc., I know there are alot (more then should be)of people living in the house next door to me. But I will also say they are VERY QUIET neighbors. Unlike the ones on the other side of me that are Americans and have me awake at all hours of the night partying and fighting. " Sep 25, 09 6:58 AM

Kabot's proposed $78 million budget will eliminate 48 town jobs next year

Actually this might be a very good thing for the animals! Politicians are not the ones that should be running the animal shelter in the first place. It should be people who care about the animals that have no polital agenda. And hopefully this will happen if they allow the shelter to privatize. I know I'll be back there in a heartbeat to help!" Neighbors Fear Pair Of Pit Bulls That Attacked Small Dog In Hampton Bays

I know Dr. Teri Meekins both professionally and personally and I can not believe how people are attacking her for making a statement regarding these two dogs. She is one of the most compassionate Veterinarians I have every met. Despite what hamptons 20 is saying Dr. Meekins is NOT on retainer for these dogs and DID NOT stop treating Sparky once she found out there was a lawsuit involved. She administered first aid to Sparky and then did the appropriate thing by sending him to the emergency clinic so he could be checked out more thoroughly. She cares for ALL animals!! It would be a travesty to animals if she lost her license as hamptons20 suggested.

I am sorry Mr. Caton was injured but I don't believe the dogs actually hurt her. I believe she fell while trying to help her dog, which is totally understandable. I too would be trying to rescue my dog if there was a dog fight. But my point is that I have met these dogs personally and they are not human aggressive. I agree that they should be kept on leash and trained but I do not think it is necessary for the neighborhood to be terrified that they will escape.
