Destroyed Mailboxes: Foul Play Or Plow Damage?

Seriously "Heavy Duty" its plastic, probably made in China. I have seen people with fortified mailboxes who no longer have to worry about baseball bats or plows. Maybe Ms. Alper should buy a better mailbox. As for the plows, these same people crying over thier plowed down mailboxes would be leading the lynch mob if they could not drive there bmws to the summer house. Welcome to the country, if you can hang please leave!!!!!" Feb 21, 12 8:57 AM

UPDATE: Hearing for Cellphone Antenna In Clock Tower Postponed

If the antennas go into the clock tower the 133 year old tradition will change. I, as the fifth generation maintaining this clock will no longer be able to maintain it, as I am not willing to expose myself the negative effects of being that close to a cellphone antenna. They have discussed self winding mechanisms, however this would also require maintenance, and someone would still need to access the tower about 12-15 times a year. Currently I wind it once a week, and go up about 1-2 times a month for other issues such as the wind causing the hands to shift, the wind stopping the clock, the ice stopping the clock, replacing tower lights, daylight savings time, and the occasional stopped clock for no apparent reason. As for cell service I SERIOUSLY doubt anyone will get more bars from this, as there are several others around the village and even standing right next to them my service At&t is spotty (metro would lease this tower to all providers). The reason this article is so one sided, it the church has been incredibly tight lipped with their side of the story. There are feasible options here, and I encourage the church to explore all possibilities, before taking this drastic step. I currently receive compensation for maintaining the clock, and have been informed that I can not speak against the church. I DO NOT INTEND THIS AS "speaking against the church" and would be more then willing to discuss this with anyone who has questions. I am located at 61 Main street 10-5 Monday thru Saturday. SeptemberFest Returns To Southampton Friday And Saturday

As a local business owner I am very upset by a letter I recieved from the village stating that village business are not allowed to participate in this event. This is appalling and this event should be BOYCOTTED by the mechants of Southampton." Sep 26, 12 4:42 PM

To clarify "boycotting" is not only impossible but rather extreme. I am upset, because I specifically went to the Chamber last July and asked them if I need a special permit to have a stand on the street. They said I did not so I spent an fair amount of money and time setting up a stand so my business could contribute to the villages festival. Two days before the event I received a letter saying I could not put out a stand. SUMMERTIME I too have friends who are completing for best chowder, and commend the village for creating an event to bring people to Southampton. However, I fail to see how the village can have a event to promote it self but prohibit the merchants from participating. " Sep 28, 12 6:27 PM

Southampton Village Nixes Sidewalk Sales During SeptemberFest

My display is significantly more involved then what this article says. My point of frustration is I WENT to the chamber three months ago and asked if i could but a stand out and Karen Connolly herself told me it would be ok. So I spent my money and time to design a display then two days before the event they say we can't because they say it will change "distinguished characteristics". Who do they intend to attract? Secondly how was this event funded? By taxpayers like the merchants of Southampton? I completely agree with lursagirl if we do not make a drastic change to get the businesses and the promoters agreeing we are destine to fail. " Sep 28, 12 6:40 PM

UPDATE: East Hampton Bowl Owner Saddened To Close Business

It is very sad to see this business leave and I feel for the owners and the tough decision they had to make. I have bowled there many times in my life and will miss this iconic land mark of the route to East Hampton. This is just one more nail driven into the Hampton's coffin by its pretentious population. Maybe one day when there nothing left but a rich mans waste land the people will realize what has happened and try to rebuild. Until then we will live day by day watching these self important a**holes destroy our way of life.
Goodbye East Hampton Bowling alley! Thank-you for you many years of service. Happy retirement. " Jun 19, 13 7:24 AM

Protesters Gather In East Hampton Village To Oppose Deer Culling

I have been trying to understand the opposition to the culling? Do they think the government is going to eradicate the deer entirely? The deer population on the east end has gotten out of control due to overdevelopment and limited hunting policies. There is no doubt that something must be done to prevent damage to people, and the inhumane starving of the deer whose population will eventually surpass its food supply. I have yet to hear any opposing view that is based on fact instead of personal emotion. I have lived here all my life and have deep respect for nature, but highly emotional "activtist" annoy me because they don't propose a solution. If the deer population is thinned (not eradicated because thats impossible) then birth control and proper hunting practices are put in place, that sounds like a good solution. As for the "locals" who live here two weeks out of the year and feel they can voice there opinion YOU CREATED THIS PROBLEM!! You have no right to shout your ignorant crap at farmers and others who are trying to save their lively hoods. If someone can provide a intelligent reason why I am wrong please do so. I consider myself to be open-minded and would welcome another prospective. " Jan 19, 14 9:22 AM

Police: Couple Left Children Alone In Car While They Went Shopping In Hampton Bays

Lets here it for Southampton PD. It only took the 15 minutes to respond from a mile away. Good thing no one was really in any danger. Ah that being said WTF is wrong with this town. I got left in the car frequently when I was a kid and I grew up just fine. Who ever called the police needs to mind there own business. Now these parents are arrested and dragged through the mud for nothing. Next thing you know I am going to get arrested for leaving my dog in my truck, by some nosey dipsh*t with more time and money then brains." Mar 7, 14 7:26 AM

State Fixes St. Andrew's Road Traffic Light

Its not that it is hard to see, or the yellow lights a the there fire house are distracting. Its a frivolous place to put a light, and no one expects it. People have been driving that route there whole lives, suddenly for no apparent reason a stop light appears. Of course its going to take a while to adjust." Jun 24, 15 8:31 AM

UPDATE: Hill Street In Southampton Reopened After Gas Leak

Actually there was a mark out done. The issue is there are so many inactive lines in the ground the person who did the mark out marked old lines. These gas leaks will continue to increase, as long as there is constant construction. Many people use some sort of gas out here, National grid needs to build a more effective emergency crew to deal with this problem." Sep 19, 15 7:16 AM

If Blinking Light Program Is Successful, County Road 39 Could Get A New Underpass Instead Of Light

Toll booth on the bridges. Mandatory EZ pass (as is done in many places), free for residents. The cost will limit cars and create a great source of revenue. The money can be used to improve all our roads from SH to Montauk. " Apr 21, 16 9:29 AM

Tuckahoe Center Developer Appeals Dismissal Of Lawsuit Against Suffolk County Planning Commission

Seriously, how many times/ways does this guy need to be told NO. Regardless of how you feel about this project when and idea is rejected for a valid reason over and over and over again the developer needs to stop. The fact that he threatens volunteers with law suits just goes to show what a jerk this guy is. Then again, in this country if you threaten everyone with a law suit you can become president. Morris Studio To Close After 125 Years

It is the end of an era, and a sad thing to see a business like this close. I know it must have been a very hard decision, and I wish the family the best going forward. My family and I have been customers of Morris studios since they opened and I will miss their presence on Main Street. Good luck with future endeavors!

Grand Jury Examining Hill Street Crash While Southampton Village Residents Seek Slowdown

They could make the speed limit 10 MPH and people would still speed. They can put stop signs and speed bumps in and our traffic problem will get WAY worse. It isn't about the car on Hill street, its about the 100 cars behind them that now get backed up even further. The only solution here is enforcement of the current speed limit which should be done more. The fact is, there are two roads going east with 1000s of people on them daily. Accidents will occur. Its a matter of probability. Look at 27. Same problem

Sandy Hollow Affordable Housing Project In Tuckahoe To Break Ground This Summer

ITS EXPENSIVE TO LIVE IN SOUTHAMPTON. The exclusivity of the area is a major draw for the people who fund our bubble economy. There are several towns to the near west that are much more affordable with a more affordable cost of living Having and "affordable" place to live doesn't make food, gas, or any living expense more affordable. Make a better commuting system (like the trains and buses) and more people can easily commute from other areas without impacting traffic. The fact that Southampton is being compared to Speonk is absurd. Total apples and oranges. As usual this is a play for the rich to get richer at the expense of the people. Its a shame that the people who need help are so easily manipulated to help the people who are holding them down in the first place. The housing authority is a total farce that should have been disbanded years ago. Please don't let these people destroy my community to better enrich themselves.

One Kings Lane To Open In Former Rogers Memorial Library Building In Southampton

This building has sat vacant since the Library left. Most of Jobs lane is vacant during the winter anyway, at least the space is being used for something. Nice to see a retail business moving in which will bring foot traffic. It could have been another real estate office or brokerage house.
" Apr 20, 17 8:39 AM

a vacant building that is slowly falling down is better? " Apr 21, 17 1:28 PM

Its very easy to say year round business and hire locals. Then you look at the year round numbers in the village and the labor pool and the song changes. I hire locals, year round, and am well aware of the difficulties of making payroll when there is ZERO business. Maybe until you know what it takes to run a local business you should dedicate your opinion to an issue your better versed in.

Discovery Land Says It Can Use Pine Barrens Credits To Increase Density If PDD Is Rejected

Community Reacts To Southampton Village Board Candidate Using Slur In Call To Police

This is a village board candidate? Wow. I wish I had a vote in the village so I could vote against this ridiculous person. Ms. Smith welcome to 2017, its not the 70s. You should know that as someone who wants to represent the people. Good luck getting elected, I would drop out now and save the money and the embarrassment. " May 27, 17 9:14 AM
