Southampton Town department heads try to dodge layoffs

With Town employees one must understand that a person with senority is guaranteed to have a job if that position is eliminated. With the union a person cannot simply be terminated just to save money. The position can be eliminated but than that person by union agreement gets placed in another position. Ultimately what happens is that the person who gets terminated is the one who has the least senority. Generally there is very rarely a personel change in government. Those who say the Town needs to cut the people who are not productive don't understand that those people will just be reassigned. Its very hard to change a work culture and terminate person in such an environment. This is the exact reason why the Town cannot be run like a private business when it comes to personnel." Southampton Town deputy supervisor confronts, shoves PBA president over comments about budget

its humorous to hear aube and gwinn speak about layoffs in the Town when its their department thats contributing to the layoffs. the police department is operating in a 5 million dollar deficit and they are not making any concessions. they are holding up negotiations because they want a 4.5% raise. 90% of the SHPD makes in total (benefits and salary) aprox $175k. how about aube and gwinn work with the Town to reduce their deficit and forgo raises like everyone else. how about they offer concessions so people in Town Hall can keep their jobs? Pat Aube stop preaching about the working family when you and your PBA are the ones screwing the taxpayer with your 6 figure salaries. Seriously what police work is going on in Southampton that warrants 6 figure salaries? Yea that crowd control at neptunes and the boardy barn, thats tough! Put your money where your mouth is Pat and show the taxpayer you care about the people that are cut out of the budget." Oct 3, 09 4:41 PM

i have done my homework. i've never been in trouble with the PD anywhere or received any tickets. Simple fact is aube and the PBA are mad Kabot tried to force retirements, now he is doing what he can to make her look bad. I don't want to hear what he tried. there are 5 people on this board, 2 of which have PBA endorsements, there is no problem with him getting support to implement any of the budget cuts he says he wants or any of the findings in the famous Bratton Study" Oct 3, 09 8:13 PM

Kabot's proposed $78 million budget will eliminate 48 town jobs next year

what cuts and savings have Throne-Holst and Pope put forth? I don't recall any except for ATH's firing of the Vet Tech. Pope supposedly called for an audit, which everyone wanted anyway right after Blowes dropped the $19 million bombshell at a work session.

What has ATH dones in 2 years to reduce spending or fix the books in Town Hall? She's endorsed by the PBA why hasn't she proposed anything to fix the the problem?
What has Pope done in her 9 months in office other than that ridiculous councilperson reso?" Oct 9, 09 11:39 AM

Yes, but Anna has been bragging in debates and the news how she saw the economic crisis coming when she took office last year. So my question is what has she done to reduce spending during her 2 years on the board?

Yes it is the Supervisor's budget, but the Board makes amendments to it. So again what has/is she propsed to reduce spending and fix the deficit?

yes Kabot hasd been involved for such a long time but you seem to assume that because you are elected official, your fellow board members share things with you and Department Heads are open about their budget. Also one would assume that the Comptrollers Office and independent auditors are performing their jobs correctly." Oct 9, 09 2:36 PM

Southampton Town deputy supervisor confronts, shoves PBA president over comments about budget

why does the taxpayer have to pay for disability for someone who crashed their own motorcycle on the way to work? thats apparently injured in the line of duty. why does the taxpayer have to pay for those who insist on getting a 4% raise during these tough times? why does almost 100% of the SHPD make over 100k (benefits salary)? I'm all for police but these guys are outrageous and act as if they police a war zone and are paid like they do.

FYI when you name call you sound like Aube and it completely diminishes anything you say after that." Oct 10, 09 7:52 AM

Southampton councilwoman mulls bids to privatize town animal shelter

Last year it was the Vet Tech and now its the whole shelter! wow this is nuts! Oddone trial begins; opening statements heard Monday

Its all great this Anthony is a nice guy, bottom line is he drank and he strangled somebody. His nice charecter isn't going to change that or justify what he did. He stangled a guy on the the porch of the Publick House then got in a cab and left. Not my definition of a model citizen.

All of you Oddone supporters don't even bother to dispute that he killed anyone, you all are hanging your hat on the fact he is a nice guy. Since when does being nice make it ok to murder?

If you think the donations and mural were rigged, go to SC Jail and talk to some of the people there." Oct 20, 09 11:14 AM

Southampton Town Board candidates say little about proposed 2010 budget

Turkey Bridge: Sally and Bridget have been critiicizing the budget at every debate, in the press, and in the democratic mailings (which by the way only play the blame game, something the dems have been critical over Kabot for).

It seems to me their only platform is to blame and criticize. They have not offered any ideas or plans. They only say its time to change. Sally has not offered any plans to reduce the deficit or make budget cuts. She has done practically nothing in office. That also goes for ATH, where are her budget cuts and deficit reduction plans?" Throne-Holst missed campaign finance filing deadline

She claims to have seen these deficits two weeks in office and her whole campaign is based on the fact she PUBLICLY called for an audit. In the tow years in office she has made no cuts or offered any plans to reduce the deficit. She has had two years to do something, She has had an alliance with Nuzzi and Russo and now Nuzzi and Pope. There is no reason why nothing could be put foward. The only thing she cut is the Vet Tech." Oct 25, 09 7:45 PM

Again how does any of that relate to the Hampton Bays visioning Document made by the Civic Group. It is nothing more than political posturing and using a tragedy to stir emotions.
