Ethics Board Dismisses Complaint Over Use Of Town Facilities In Throne-Holst Campaign Video

Its a sad day when Town Hall can be used for blatant political purposes and during business hours right in plain view of everyone.

I wonder if "unit production manager" jennifer garvey was unit producing on that day or working for the people and tax payers of the Town when Town Hall was being used by that film crew all day...

Just absolutely disgusting." Nov 6, 11 8:03 PM

Southampton Town Board Revisits Police Overtime Debate

Seems a little ridiculous to me that anyone is allowed to just over run their budget without any kind of explanation, especially tax payer dollars. I don't want to hear about the dwindling police force because in reality the police force has ALWAYS operated with under 90 officers due to the malingering workers compensation officers who just can't work because of jammed fingers or twisted wrists. I don't understand why Overton kept O/T within budget but this new guy can't. Seems to me he's just letting the officers do as they please. It would be an interesting story for the Press to do and calculate how many actual working police officers there have been over the years and the use of overtime." Nov 25, 11 1:14 PM

Southampton Town Board Holds Off On Plastic Bag Ban

Clearly the Town mandated Green Bag should be the first to be banned. Its silly I have to buy official Town of Southampton Green Garbage bags to put 3 or 4 of my regular white garbage bags in to dispose of them at a Transfer Station. " Dec 10, 11 10:24 AM

BY weight. Every transfer station already has 2 to 3 staff members , add a scale to each one, weigh the bags of non recycled waste, and charge. Like a scale at the grocery store check out. That would encourage recycling; fees by weight would correspond to the cost of transporting and disposing of the waste. In the 1980's we used to pay the attendants cash, I think a flat fee per visit. That was stopped for a few reasons. I think with technology, people would be paying electronically rather than with cash and that would lessen the risk of employees giving in to temptation. This nonsense of trying to cram as much as one can into a $6 green bag is a bit absurd and not even environmentally friendly and a direct contradiction to what our newly green Town Board is trying to do. The Town should fix its own processes before it forcibly restricts the freedom of others to do as they please!" Dec 10, 11 9:42 PM

Southampton Town Will End Year With Budget Surplus

I believe that the Chief fiscal officer and the democrat minority abstained and voted against this budget that was adopted last year that is ending in a surplus this year. Very interesting that Turkey and they were bashing the majority for ramming it through and saying how it will destroy Town finances this time last year! Now they sing a different tune and everyone is trying to pat themselves on the back for a job well done and stealing all the credit!" Dec 26, 11 6:10 PM

I'm curious what was cut out of the budget during this year and what has changed that altered it from the adopted?
What was undone?

In all honestly I give no elected credit for the surplus, it belongs to the departments for not spending to their budget, with the exception of the new police chief who is unaware of what a budget it." Dec 29, 11 6:59 PM

By the way, I howl for anyones head who creates or inflates a deficit regardless of political affiliation." Dec 29, 11 7:01 PM

But the ATH Budget tried to raise taxes, so she is for more spending. This is not her budget, she abstained. None of the reorganization occurred, her spending increases did not happen, and the "business department" is alive and well.

Nothing was undone that was adopted as part of the budget. You provide no proof. I am very familiar with the Board minutes that is why I am asking you to tell me because I don't see any. Linda Kabot did not let her slide on any budget issue. In fact the 2012 budget is basically what Linda had already proposed or tried to initiate in her tenure. Nothing original to ATH. The only reason the 2012 budget is the way it is, is because she learned from the 2011 that did not have the votes to raise taxes otherwise, true to her political philosophy, she would have increased taxes to ultimately increase the role and size of government in everyone's life.

It is true the elected set the limits for spending but when that spending has exceeded the budget, there's no real consequence; the Police for example - the Board will make funds available. I think it is a crime to let that behavior continue without consequence. " Dec 30, 11 12:13 PM

Union Deal Saves Southampton Town Cops From Chopping Block

actually no elected has taken a raise in 4 years. The police are entitled to raises without any basis on merit and a whole a lot of special entitlement pay and perks. A town this size should not have a 20 million dollar police force. Thats 1/4 of the entire town budget!" Jan 9, 12 9:40 PM

Forces Tried To Oust Southampton Town Police Chief

Another mysterious message that involves Anna Throne-Holst? This time she's saying she got one but last time she said she didn't and lied when her Police cronies called her about the Kabot arrest. So now we are supposed to believe her?

They all need to go including this Chief. Anyone who can't effectively manage a police force with 90 officers without using $700,000 in overtime needs to go. What's amazing is Overton was able to keep overtime at half that with the same size force." Mar 30, 12 3:11 PM

Sagaponack, Bridgehampton Residents Propose $24 Million Beach Nourishment Project

$20 million dollars for sand. Outstanding governance by our leaders! $3 million to be burdened on all taxpayers! Maybe $3 million should be spent to pave roads, build a park, fix dune road, etc. No, $3 million will be spent for sand for beaches that have very little public access for anyone other than the few oceanfront homeowners.

How about these homeowners who are willing to tax themselves $17 million, make a generous donation to the Town for the Town's share? I'm not even elected and I just thought of that!

What happens when a hurricane or nor'easter hits and $20 million in sand is reclaimed by the ocean before it is even paid for?
