Mayor Teller: Another Westhampton Beach police officer faces disciplinary charges

May 5, 2010 1:13 PM

A Westhampton Beach Village Police officer has been served with disciplinary charges, according to Mayor Conrad Teller, but officials aren’t saying who or why.

Mayor Teller confirmed that charges were filed against the unnamed officer about two weeks ago, alleging that he disobeyed an order. That officer officially responded to the charges on Tuesday, April 27, and denied the allegations, according to the mayor.

The mayor refused to elaborate on the allegations or release any additional information, other than to say the officer has not been suspended.

Westhampton Beach Police Chief Ray Dean declined to comment, saying the situation is a personnel matter.

The next step is for the Village Board to either appoint a hearing officer to handle the case or decide to have its members serve as the hearing officers themselves. The matter is expected to be on the board’s agenda tonight, May 6.

The charges have nothing to do with those filed—and later dropped—against Westhampton Beach Police Officers Michael Bruetsch and Joseph Pesapane, who were suspended with pay by the mayor in October and reinstated by the Village Board in December, Mayor Teller said. The board has been at odds since then over whether or not to hold disciplinary hearings for those officers, who were accused of lying to superior officers during a Suffolk County Police Internal Affairs Bureau investigation last year over a fellow officer’s missing handgun.

Resolutions to suspend Officers Bruetsch and Pesapane and authorize disciplinary hearings for them, and motions to rescind four resolutions that demand records from the police department, are also expected to be on Thursday’s agenda.

Well here we go again.
Cops have been caught lying, sleeping and on and on and on.
Than the so-called chief says he does not have enought coverage because there are to many officers taking sick leave.
One office even has the nerve to say his sick leave is his bussiness (but we are paying for it)

We can thank Tucker, Levan and Kammetler again for this additional mess with the Police. Tucker has been police liason to the Police Department for 2 years, and during that time has meddled in the Police Department so much that police officers who should be charged for substantial misdeeds are being let off the hook, while the rest of us are suppose to follow the law and rules and regulations that apply to us.

Tucker also has been the architect of passing 5 illegal resolutions demanding ...more

Sjd, you have no clue what your asking for. Ask Greenport !! They sued trying to get their police department back a month after the department was disbanded. WHB needs to deal with the issues. You need a board that lets the Chief of Police do his job and maybe hiring a CHief from outside WHB is needed. .

How dare you say I have no clue.
Since this looks like your 4th post you may be the one with no clue.
Look back over the past few years than maybe you can comment on what is going on in the town that I live in.
