Tierra Mar closes its doors for good

Nov 4, 2009 12:21 PM

Tierra Mar and Atlantica, the popular restaurant and catering venue on Dune Road in Westhampton Beach, both closed on Saturday, October 31.

Todd Jacobs, the owner and chef at Tierra Mar, shuttered his businesses, both of which were located inside the Bath and Tennis Hotel, so he could focus on his other restaurant in Long Beach, according to a woman who would only identify herself as Mr. Jacobs’s kitchen manager. Mr. Jacobs’s other restaurant, also named Atlantica, is located in Long Beach.

Mr. Jacobs could not be reached for comment this week.

The board members of the Bath and Tennis Hotel were not available to comment this week, said Joe Loney, the general manager of the facility. He added that the board is currently in negotiations with other potential tenants.

Ed Kurosz, the vice president of the Greater Westhampton Beach Chamber of Commerce, said he wishes Mr. Jacobs luck in his venture in Long Beach.

“Todd’s outstanding contributions and devotion to the face of quality dining in Westhampton Beach over the last 15 years will surely be missed by the community,” Mr. Kurosz wrote in an e-mail. “The Greater Westhampton Chamber of Commerce looks forward to working closely with the new incoming operators of our Westhampton Beach oceanfront jewel to guarantee future success.”

I am saddened to hear of Tierra Mar's closing. What a wonderful place. What a loss to the East End.
I wish Todd Jacobs the very best. He's a lovely man.

Tierra Mar / Atlantica CANCELLED many weddings that have been booked for months to years in advance. Some people found out only 2-3 weeks before the wedding day that they would NOT be able to have it at Atlantica. If they knew they were going to be closing - WHY did they book weddings into the end of 2010? for the $? I am one of the ones whos wedding was cancelled at least I have a year to plan... but we are still trying to get our deposit back. We asked Todd if he was going to be here in a ...more

WHERE ARE YOUR ETHICS MR. JACOBS?????? I mean did they not do the same thing at the hotel. I mean how screwed up can you be. Give back the deposits dont be a dirt bag!
By trustme (3), rvc on Oct 30, 09 4:51 AM
Sorry Sag Harbor! it seems that you are a recievable. meaning his balance sheet is based on future bookings. While he was negotiating (speculation) with his new long beach locale, when you can show booking from your other location you have 1. better negotiating power 2. you can borrow off your future bookings.

i wish you well and you might want to talk to a lawyer

This guy is unbelievable , needs to go to bussiness school, what a horror show, cooking lessons might be in the cards as well, people will eat at beautiful spots and book parties no matter what, it must be such a dissapointment when ur enjoying the scenery and having a great time in a great place then you sit down to eat .....hopefully your too drunk by that time to notice. I feel bad for all of you who have weddings booked and if you havent all ready do not go to long beach trust me go somewhere ...more

Good restaurants, allow me to correct... excellent restaurants, but pretentious ones are done in the Westhampton area... Todd should have stayed at the Old Montauk Highway location, I really liked his place, cuisine and wine list (quite a good one)... but, let’s be realistic, there’s still a Johnny Chich, a Baby Moon (I wish they would bring down their prices) and old and faithful Milo’s (do not like the new name)!!!!!

I've been to Atlantica quite a few times. The last time was this month, and the quality of the experience, and food was diminished in my opinion. There should be a special place in hell for any vendor who takes advantage of brides and their families. If I knew anyone who was getting married there I'd tell them to go there in person to get their deposit back ASAP. When I was there earlier this month I saw a couple who appeared to be considering the place for their wedding. I hope they were informed ...more

Rusty T: Sorry. You sound like an underemployed journalist . Who says all the news that's fit to print is acccurate now, or ever? Worse yet, the talking oral orifice's of many of today's 24 hour "news?" programs are just Horrible.
All blogmeisters are not alike, any more than FOX and MSNBC report through the same lens.
I merely pointed out that, like Clark Kent at The Daily Planet, some reporters get there faster, is all.
Give credit where credit is due, man. whbqt.info has been a ...more

Jean: Never said all the news was accurate--never has been, never will. What most people do not get is that reliable news sources--NOT FOX news and all of those wonderful stations and newspapers that aspire to be like it--actually check info, call sources, report on what is going on and do not mix their opinions and push their own agendas when reporting the news. The blogger you refer to is often guilty of the last two items--and he can get away with it because he has a blog. And the people who ...more

FOX Rocks! OMG the Legs!
But Honestly this guy should come clean...... I hope he does but i fret that these poor brides and families will have a battle on there hands. Purveyors forget sorry forgive bad debt. These poor people have saved. Shame on him.

Let me guess...Did the Bath & Tennis raise their rent ?

I too was forced out of business when my Landlord wanted at 500% increase in

I wish them success in their new location, if it ever happens !

Bye Bye :):):):)

This restaurant just about ruined a friend's wedding when they refused the bride's request to locate her father's table next to all of the other family tables. For some unknown reason they had his table in a back corner in an area usually reserved for the band. Bride was in tears the day before the wedding. Even the bride's Mom (divorced from her Dad) tried to talk to the manager (owner's Mom at that time) who would not hear any of it. Ultimately, three of us sneaked ...more

This is such a silly comment. It makes no sense, and is obviously very little of the actual story.
