How do you hit a horse? Was the driver blind?

Uhhhh... Maybe the horse ran out into the road? You never know with animals. Hopefully more details to follow.

I'm sure the horse stopped and looked both ways before crossing the road.

The truck didn't hit the horse, the horse hit the truck! It got out of its pen and the farm hand was trying to chase it back in when it darted across the road and into the side of the moving truck. It had to be put down because of a mangled front leg.
