New York City woman crashes into utility pole guard wire on County Road 39, might have blacked out

Aug 3, 2010 4:37 PM

A New York City woman crashed her 2007 Lexus four-door into a utility pole guide wire near the Sleepy’s on County Road 39 shortly after noon last Thursday, July 29, and was treated for minor injuries, according to police.

Southampton Town Police Sergeant John Boden said Linda Friedman, 71, told police she might have blacked out behind the wheel.

Ms. Friedman, who was driving eastbound during the accident, had to be extricated from her vehicle with the Jaws of Life, according to Lieutenant Chris Brenner, the public information officer of the Southampton Fire Department, which responded to the scene along with its heavy rescue squad. Ms. Friedman was transported by Southampton Volunteer Ambulance to Southampton Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Lt. Brenner said.

The accident did not cause any major traffic tie-ups, the lieutenant added.

Sgt. Boden said Ms. Friedman does not face any citations.

She should not be allowed to drive until doctors find out if and why she is blacking out. This can be more dangerous than DWI!

How can the police not write any kind of ticket? It must be O'kay to not stay in your lane and crash!

Walt, driving and blacking out can be more dangerous than DWI? She should be ticketed else it implies that crashing is o.k.? Look, if your depends undergarments are leaking we all can understand that, but goodness. You make no sense at all, and you had two comments in which to try.
