Bob Morrow hires public relations firm to help out

Jul 14, 2010 10:57 AM

Developer Bob Morrow recently hired the public relations firm Rubenstein Associates of Manhattan to work with him on his latest commercial development proposal, dubbed “Tuckahoe Main Street.”

In a press release the firm issued last Friday, Mr. Morrow is quoted as saying that reports that his development will be a “megamall” are “quite simply untrue and a cynical version of character assassination.”

Mr. Morrow’s plans call for a 40,000-square-foot King Kullen, 12 to 13 smaller retail shops, 12 apartments and a few offices, and he would need the Southampton Town Board to grant special zoning to the land to make it possible.

The proposal is facing significant opposition: one group of Southampton Town citizens called the “Coalition to Stop the Tuckahoe Mall” has been placing print ads criticizing the project.

Mr. Morrow could not be reached for comment.

Gary Lewi, the executive vice president at Rubenstein Associates, declined to say when his firm was hired by Mr. Morrow. He did say, “When you have critics who are describing this as a megamall, you need to be sure your message is backed by the facts and is put out there by a variety of platforms.”

Southampton Venture LLC, Mr. Morrow’s company, has fired back at the critics recently by placing newspaper advertisements defending the plans.

These PR folks will have to be magicians to sell Mr. Morrow's sorry plan at this time. It's been walked on, spat upon and dumped on -- rightly so -- and what's left isn't much of a product. Bob Morrow should cut his losses and build whatever he can as of right, because he's not getting a PDD.

Mr. Lewi made quotes, "mega mall, message backed by facts, various platforms". This is a slippery toungue. Has he considered the logistics of this project? Hey realitors maybe he is looking along with Mr Morrow to buy a house close to this mall, you know to reap the benifits of it.
