Aug 26, 2009 11:25 AM

Lifelong Southampton Village resident Paul R. Dox died on August 19 at Southampton Hospital. He was 56.

Born on October 31, 1952, at Southampton Hospital, he attended Southampton Public Schools and Southampton College. He worked for Herrick Hardware as a salesman for many years.

An avid lover of photography and nature, Mr. Dox tended vegetable gardens that provided his family and friends with a bountiful harvest every year, family members recalled this week.

He is survived by a daughter, Rachel Calkins of Arizona; his mother, Regina Dox of Southampton; and two brothers, Kirk Dox of East Quogue and John L. Dox III of Southampton. He was predeceased by his father, John L. Dox, a sister, Leslie Dox, and his companion, Katherine Prior.

Visitation was held on August 24 at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Quogue Wildlife Refuge, P.O. Box 492, Quogue, NY 11959 would be appreciated by the family.

I DONT USUALLY MAKE COMMENTS BUT I FEEL I HAVE NO CHOICE. I MEET PAUL WHEN I CAME HERE FROM IRELAND WHEN HE WAS DRIVING HE IS ONE OF THE NICEST PEOPLE I HAVE EVER MET. HE WAS KIND, CARING AND ALSO MADE ONE FEEL RELAXED. HE ALWAYS TALKED ABOUT HIS DAUGHTER AND FAMILY WITH LOVE AND HAPPINESS. PAUL DEFINATLY HAS MADE AN IMPACT PROBABLE ANYONE WHO HAD THE PLEASURE OF MEETING HIM. I FEEL HONOURED AND SAD AT THE SAME TIME. TO ALL HIS FAMILY I AM SORRY YOU ARE IN MY PRAYS.

Paul was a very special and kind person. I always requested him to be my driver whenever possible. He always spoke of his daughter with such pride. I am so sorry for his passing and sorry that we will never get to read the great american novel he was writing!! He was a deep and compasionate man, it would have been a best seller, I know it!
