Two Huntington Station Men Arrested After Police Pull Over Stolen Car

May 8, 2013 10:10 AM

Two Huntington Station men were arrested in Southampton Village on Thursday night, May 2, after police spotted them in a stolen car without headlights on.

One of the men tried to run away from police but was captured following a short chase, according to Southampton Village Police Detective Sergeant Herman Lamison.

William Anthony, 28, and Charles L. Stewart, 27, were in a 2012 Audi A6 without headlights on North Sea Road and were stopped on County Road 39 by Southampton Village Police. Mr. Anthony was driving the car, according to Det. Sgt. Lamison. Mr. Stewart, who was the passenger in the car, exited the car and fled on foot.

He said a computer check revealed that the car had been reported stolen in Huntington Station on April 26.

Mr. Anthony was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, a felony, plus DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree, both misdemeanors.

Mr. Stewart was also charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. Det. Sgt. Lamison also said Mr. Stewart had violated his parole.

At arraignment, both men were remanded without bail to the Suffolk County Jail in Riverside.
