UPDATE: Fashion Designer Upset After Finding Camera Used To Videotape Women Changing At Swimsuit Show In Southampton

Sep 21, 2012 10:39 AM

Swimsuit fashion designer Lu Berry said on Friday that she found the camera and took it to the police. She said that the video of the models changing was “not a mistake,” and that it was “super obvious he was trying to film the girls getting naked.”

Mr. Liguori was hired to film the fashion show by one of the models, who had worked with him in the past and did not know that he was a convicted sex offender, she said.

“I’m upset. Very upset,” she said. “It’s a nightmare.”

According to Suffolk County Police, Mr. Liguori was also arrested on Friday, September 7, and charged with stalking in the third degree, a misdemeanor.

A Mastic Beach man was arrested by Southampton Village Police on Tuesday morning after police said he videotaped seven women changing clothes at a swimsuit fashion show at 230 Elm in July.

Robert L. Liguori, 51, was charged with four counts of second-degree unlawful surveillance, a felony, and three counts of second-degree attempted surveillance, a misdemeanor.

Police said Mr. Liguori, a self-described artist and photographer, was recording the females, ages 20 to 31, while they were changing in the dressing room at 230 Elm on July 12. On that date, the “Off The Record” in The Hamptons Wine & Dine Event was held at 230 Elm, featuring the Lu Berry Bikini Fashion Show. The event was hosted by The Independent newspaper, Hampton Daze magazine and Dining Engagement Group.

According to Southampton Village Police Detective Sergeant Herman Lamison, Mr. Liguori was freelancing as a photographer and videographer for the event and tried to hide a camera on a shelf inside the dressing room. Det. Sgt. Lamison said one of the victims recognized that there was a video camera and the police were notified shortly thereafter.

The police are not aware of the video appearing anywhere online or otherwise, but the investigation is still ongoing, he said.

Officers used a search warrant on Tuesday to search Mr. Liguori’s residence. Mr. Liguori, who is currently registered as a Level 2 sex offender, was taken to the Suffolk County Jail in Riverside in lieu of $32,000 bail.

He was convicted in 2000 of disseminating indecent materials to a minor, for which he was sentenced to serve 55 months in a state prison, according to the Parents for Megan’s Law sex offender registry. He has also been known to use the name “Leonardo Liguori,” according to Det. Sgt. Lamison.

“We were happy to be able to come to a conclusion and bring this man to justice,” he said. “Hopefully, this doesn’t happen again in Southampton Village.”

Can't wait for people to blame the "homeless shelter" in HB for this

Why would we have to do that, Did you not read the article. He is from Mastic same place most of the shelter inhabitants and the classy Bordy Barn patrons come from

I know PLENTY of locals who regularly frequent the barn - as well as many people from all over the island. Mastoids are few and far between Sunday afternoons.

You need to give it a rest for awhile.

I take it you feel yourself to be a superior person to the working class families who live in Mastic Beach?

RF, Sorry if I might have offended you, I for one have no problem with the hard working members of Mastic Beach. I was talking about the disproportionate amount of section 8 family's in any one area, and of course the hooligans and hussy's that loiter the Wild by Nature parking lot barfing and fighting on there way back to the train station every Sunday in Hampton Bays boarding to points West

You didn't use that nasty term, Nature did.

You are right about that area bearing more than its fair share of section 8 though. The irony is that Section 8 benefits are so generous, that working people can't compete.

A single mother with 3 children gets $2700/month for housing from the taxpayer. Because properties are so often destroyed by section 8 tenants, few will rent to them. So, the irony is that somewhat run down apartments in Mastic/Shirley that should be affordable to ...more

I just don't know why your dragging the Barn into this? You know the barn and all the night clubs brought tourists here once back when, then guys like Steve Kenny went out of their way to shut them all down, then a large portion of the houses that were being rented out to group rentals for 4 months are now being rented out to those section 8 families and hordes of those illegal immigrants that you all complain about so much ... and not for four months all year round, so you know what ? I long for ...more

Employment opportunity?

I'm pretty good with a camera, and a clear record, so far.
