Firefighters Respond To House Fire In Tuckahoe

Apr 19, 2011 6:40 PM

About 40 firefighters fought a blaze at a home on Sebonac Road in Tuckahoe on Friday night, and officials say it is still too early to tell what sparked the fire.

The Southampton Fire Department responded to a call at 8:50 p.m. reporting flames coming from the roof of the home, near the chimney for a wood-burning stove, according to Captain Chris Brenner.

With assistance from the North Sea and Hampton Bays fire departments, firefighters extinguished the flames in about 20 minutes, said Capt. Brenner, who reported minor structural damage to the roof. Though one resident was home at the time of the fire, no injuries were reported.

“The fire wasn’t that bad, but anytime there are flames, it can never be a good fire,” Capt. Brenner said. “We did have flames coming from the roof when we arrived but, overall, it wasn’t a horrendous fire. It was another textbook stop by our firefighters.”

Southampton Fire Chief Rodney “Chip” Pierson was in charge at the scene, and the Southampton Volunteer Ambulance was on standby. Eleven fire trucks responded to the scene, which was wrapped up by 10:35 p.m., Capt. Brenner said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Southampton Town fire marshal’s office, he said.
