Vice President Joe Biden Vacationing In Southampton This Week

Aug 7, 2013 10:59 AM

Vice President Joe Biden is vacationing in Southampton Village once again, village officials have confirmed.

Mr. Biden, who has visited the village frequently in the past, is expected to be here through the weekend. It is unclear if his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, also is in town. The family usually stays at philanthropist and technology entrepreneur David Bohnett’s estate on First Neck Lane or at the Village Latch Inn on Hill Street.

The Federal Aviation Administration has issued temporary flight restrictions for planes flying below 3,000 feet for airspace within a three-mile radius centered on Southampton Village. The restrictions went into effect on August 5 and will be lifted on August 12, according to the FAA’s website.

Mr. Biden and his wife have visited Southampton Village at least once a year since 2009, when he came for the Columbus Day weekend. Since then, he has paid a week-long visit each summer.

According to the White House website, the vice president does not have any public appearances scheduled throughout the next week.

The closure of air space below 3,000' above "Southampton Town" would explain why the helicopter noise above Noyac has been noticeably quieter yesterday and today. Sunday afternoon and early Monday morning was bonkers.

Has there been an increase over Northwest Woods and the Southern Approach routes in Wainscott?

"Even President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was in office 12 years from 1933 to 1945, was on vacation less days than President Bush at 958 days. Calls to several Presidential Libraries reveal that no President can come close to Bush’s 1,020 days on vacation in an 8 year period."

I hate wading into this federal politcal stuff - but do all of you honestly believe that while they're on "vacation" they don't, in fact "work"? It's the digital age and the feds probably have access to technology far greater than the typical american citizen. This is not Roosevelt's age, where a vacation would literally mean being off from work.

I'm willing to bet these politicans (on either side of the aisle) are capable of doing work when they're not in DC. I'm not keeping track of ...more

and to spin off what peoplefirst states - shouldn't we be PROUD that the 2nd most powerful person in the Country (and one of the most powerful [potentially powerful anyway] in the world) wishes to spend his time in our backyard when he literally could go ANYWHERE in the world? Like Biden or not, like Obama or not, but there should be a certain amount of pride associated with not only having the VP come here to relax and unwind (says a lot about our backyard) but that a former 2-term president and ...more

since they are all on "vacation" why are all of us stupid taxpayers footing the bills for this?? no flights in and around southampton (and believe me I'm in BH where the private jets go over every fifteen minutes on sunday) so why should we care? Because WE are paying for these "vacations" and all the other matters these politicians can manage to shove in our faces.

Don't they have beaches in Delaware? Mr. "the middle class has been buried the last four years (said just four plus years of he and Obama in office)" would appear to prefer the Hamptons over the "inferior" middle class beaches of Delaware, which are very nice BTW.

Number one, executive orders have been implemented by every President since Washington. It's nothing new. They are guaranteed in Article II of the U.S. Constitution.

Now, when you have a bunch of people from a party which came up with the atrocity called "Intelligent Design" obstructing the legislative branch of government, executive orders are a good thing.

Dear Mr VP,
I hope that you had a good stay here, as the reason you visit is why I live here. Its a beautiful place. You made it more enjoyable due to the air space restrictions which halted the onslaught of the helicopters over North Sea. For that selfish reason I wish you would move your office here. Peace and quiet is why I live here but that is destroyed by the mass helicopter over flights. If you could give back one thing to the people of Southampton, please get behind the letter sent by ...more

Recently your this administration launched a new round of peace negotiations between Israel and Palestinian leaders. Israel had repeatedly said that it would negotiate without preconditions, but Palestinian leaders would not. This administration, through Secretary of State John Kerry, pressed Israel to release 104 terrorists from Israeli jails. Was there a single new concession demanded from Palestinians?

Does he need to be? No. There is no such thing as a vacation for the Pres. and VP every vacation is a working vacation.
