Fourth Of July Parade Held In Southampton Village Thursday Morning

Jul 5, 2013 9:19 AM

Southampton Village held its annual Fourth of July parade in the village on Thursday, with more than 100 groups marching.

The parade, which lasted approximately two and a half hours, will kicked off at 10 a.m. at the Long Island Rail Road station. Marchers continued down Main Street to Agawam Park.

The parade was led by grand marshal Gene Dombrowski, a Vietnam War veteran and former head of the village Parks Department.

The parade was great as always. Just one question. Does anyone else find waldo the clown to be depressing? It always looks like his dog just died. They should not let a miserable clown ruin childrens parades.

The parade should be better. There's got to be a way to prevent the parade from stopping for 10 minutes at a time. Also, do we really need to hear every emergency vehicle's siren? We hear enough of them around here. Place the bands through out the parade. The first half of the parade had 2 pipe bands. The last 40 minutes had about 7 bands some of which were drowned out by those annoying sirens.

Keep the parade moving and people might be inclined to stick around until the end....especially ...more

Marchers deserve some consideration too. Last year we marched in front of the cannon. I'll take the battle of the bands over that any day!

The deafening sirens with a crowd close to the emergency vehicles is unnecessary and can damage our eardrums. I found the parade to be less
inventive in terms of the floats and more commercial. I was disappointed this
year. Time to encourage participants to make more of an effort. Plus the Tea
Party yellow banners and their militaristic demeanor make me cringe. They have every right to be in the parade (free of speech) but I find they are tone deaf in terms of their presentation. ...more

I agree with much of the above. The parade is great but could be improved immensely if the organizers had the guts to tell the fire departments to bring no more than 2 modern trucks and 2 antique trucks. Everyone else should march or--here's a crazy idea--build an interesting float and sit on that instead. The monotony of the endless procession of similar trucks makes this event look more like a fire apparatus sales convention than a parade. More marchers and more floats.

Wonder Woman who are you? Captain America , aka Wyatt, aka Wizard. BTW Valkieries is much more fun than Al's Run. Some people get IT!
