Poxabogue Manager Arrested For Taking Innapropriate Photo Of Underage Girl At Golf Center

The manager of the Poxabogue Golf Center in Sagaponack was arrested last week on a felony charge, three months after authorities said he snapped an inappropriate photograph of an underage girl from behind a one-way window, and later shared the image with employees.

According to Southampton Town Police, Steven Lee, 46, of Ronkonkoma took the photo of the girl with his cellphone in late July as she sat on a bench outside a clubhouse window, which offers a view out of an office but not in. The photograph focused on the girl’s “crotch area and undergarments covering her genitals,” police said. The victim’s age wasn’t given, but she is under 17, according to court documents.

The incident took place “on or about” Tuesday, July 28, at about 11 a.m. at the town-owned golf center, according to the documents. Three employees reported to police on October 15 that they had viewed the image.

It is unclear why the incident was not reported to police until earlier this month. Detectives said they could not provide a reason for the three-month delay.

Mr. Lee, who had turned himself in at police headquarters in Hampton Bays last Wednesday, October 21, was arrested and charged with second-degree unlawful surveillance, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, police said. He was transported to Southampton Town Justice Court for arraignment immediately after, but the case was adjourned until Wednesday, November 18, according to a court representative.

He will be represented in court by James O’Shea of Southampton-based O’Shea, Marcincuk & Bruyn, LLP, who did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Mr. Lee, who is no longer in custody, also did not return a call seeking comment.

He is the owner of Steven Lee Golf Inc., which the town had contracted to manage the golf course. Town Attorney Tiffany Scarlato said the town terminated Mr. Lee last Thursday, October 22, following his arrest and immediately started the process of seeking proposals from new management companies.

Ms. Scarlato confirmed Tuesday that the one-way window that Mr. Lee took the photo through is located in a small office in the back of the pro shop at Poxabogue. The town is now planning to remove the window, which is on the north end of the shop and faces out to a bench, she said.

The underage girl was sitting on the bench when Mr. Lee snapped the photo with his cellphone.

While she did not know why the office had a one-way window, Ms. Scarlato speculated that it could have been used by employees to monitor any unusual activity on the golf course. “I think that the idea behind it, initially, is to be able to see … what’s going on out there,” she said.

The attorney noted that all of the preparation work to ready Poxabogue for next year has to take place in the fall, so the town has to find a new management company as soon as possible, especially because the golf course will remain open until mid-December.

“We’ll start the [request for proposal] process really quickly,” she said. “We will have to make arrangements now for the rest of year.”

The story makes no sense. It's disturbing but I've been to poxy numerous times and am unaware of a one way window. Also why would the girl be showing her "crotch"? Was she dressed?

First, let's hope you don't have any children, particularly a young daughter. Second, bet you have some interesting stuff on your personal computer.

If convicted I hope he ends up on the Sex Offender lists.

Yes - Please put him on the sex offender list - and he should be convicted if the witness testimony is correct. No doubt he will try it again somewhere else. He seemed "legitimate" enough to make him the manager of an institution like that where LOTS of kids were available for his perusal. Please do not let it happen again anywhere in America - protect our children!
