Sag Harbor Man Apprehended In California, Charged In February Home Invasion

Mar 24, 2015 2:32 PM

Sag Harbor Village Police arrested a man on Thursday, March 19, in connection with an attempted armed robbery last month at a neighbor’s home on Hillside Drive.

According to police, Ali Wisdom, 37, of Sag Harbor was taken into custody at John F. Kennedy International Airport and charged with one count of robbery in the first degree, one count of criminal use of a firearm in the first degree, one count of reckless endangerment in the first degree, and one count of criminal mischief in the third degree, all felonies. He was also charged with one count of menacing in the second degree, a misdemeanor.

Mr. Wisdom had been apprehended in California on March 10 by U.S. Border Patrol agents while trying to enter San Diego from Mexico, where he had fled for an unspecified amount of time after the attempted robbery, according to police. He was held at the San Diego County sheriff’s department until the Suffolk County Police Fugitive Squad flew to California and brought him back to New York to face charges.

After arresting Mr. Wisdom at JFK at approximately 8:50 p.m. last Thursday, Sag Harbor Village Police took him to police headquarters. He was arraigned Friday morning by Sag Harbor Village Justice Andrea Schiavoni at Southampton Town Justice Court in Hampton Bays. He then was remanded to Suffolk County Jail in Riverside in lieu of $200,000 cash bail or $400,000 bond.

The defendant was due back in town court on Tuesday, March 24. Sag Harbor Police Detective Jeff Proctor said last week that he expected Mr. Wisdom’s case to move up to the Major Crime Bureau, meaning that future court appearances would take place in Riverhead.

Sag Harbor Police launched a search for Mr. Wisdom last month after they said he entered the Sag Harbor home on the evening of February 10 and demanded money, holding a semi-automatic weapon to the homeowner’s head. When the man refused, Mr. Wisdom fired two shots into a television, police said, and the victim ran out an open back door and to another neighbor’s house. Mr. Wisdom fired one more shot through the front window of the house before fleeing on foot, according to police.

Det. Proctor confirmed that Mr. Wisdom and the victim were second cousins.

I can't believe "Coolio" is on the east end, doing home invasions.
