Police: Riverside Man Drove Drunk With 14-Year-Old In Car

Jul 29, 2015 10:12 AM

A Riverside man was arrested early Sunday morning and accused of driving drunk with his 14-year-old daughter in the car.

Jose M. Lopez, 31, was arrested by State Troopers at 12:50 a.m. Sunday on County Road 104 in Flanders after being stopped for crossing the double-yellow line. After being questioned, State Police said they determined that Mr. Lopez was intoxicated.

He was charged with aggravated DWI, which is automatically upgraded to a felony under Leandra’s Law, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, according to State Police.

His daughter, whom police would not name because she is a minor, was released to the custody of relatives on Sunday, according to authorities.

Mr. Lopez was placed under arrest and taken to the State Police barracks in Riverside for processing. He was then held at the Suffolk County Jail in Riverside and arraigned later Sunday morning in Southampton Town Justice Court. He was released after posting $500 cash bail.

Mr. Lopez is due back in court on Wednesday, August 26, according to a representative of the Southampton Town Justice Court.
