Louise Barker Dies October 20

Nov 7, 2019 9:53 AM

Louise Barker of Quogue died on October 20, 2019.

Born in 1930 on the Dana Estate on Quiogue, she was the youngest child of Polish immigrants that arrived through Ellis Island. She attended Westhampton Beach High School, where she was a cheerleader and played basketball, and where she met and fell in love with Robert Ace Barker, who predeceased her in 1994.

She and her husband, who went by Ace, settled down in Quogue where they raised all their children. Survivors said her home was her joy, adding that she loved to joke around and always made sure you had something to eat. She also loved the beach and shared this love of the ocean with all of her children.

Ms. Barker worked for Central Suffolk Hospital for 25 years as an intensive care unit nurse and then after retirement at 65, continued on as a private home nurse.

She is survived by her children, Christine Faszczewski, Robert Barker, Kathy Whittington, Jean Barker, and James Barker; grandchildren Anthony Faszczewski Jr., Amanda (Dan) Selph, Betsy Whittington, James Barker, Luke Barker Magee, and Jessie Barker; a great-grandchild, Caroline Selph; and a brother, Edwin Cartoski.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, Eleanor and Joseph Czartosieski; her siblings, Elizabeth Helen Kaminski, Joseph Sigmund Czartosieski Jr., Frances Theresa Kaufman; and a son-in-law, Anthony Michael Faszczewski.

A memorial Mass will be held on December 28 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Quiogue. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Werner-Rothwell Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach.

Memorial donations may be made to East End Hospice, eeh.org.
