Army Corps To Explain Camp Hero Contamination At Thursday Meeting In Montauk

Oct 22, 2019 5:02 PM

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host an informational meeting Thursday, October 24, on contamination found at Camp Hero in Montauk.

The meeting will be held at the Montauk Library from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The Army Corps has announced that a two-year investigation of the 469-acre former U.S. Army and Air Force base revealed 47 “areas of concern” after more than 1,300 soil and water samples were taken from around the property.

The ACOE has said that none of the signs of contamination poses health or ecological dangers and it has recommended that no further action be taken to address them. Thursday’s meeting is being held to explain the findings of the ACOE study to residents.
