U.S. Coast Guard officers evacuated a 50-year-old man from a fishing boat near Montauk Point on Sunday afternoon due to a health emergency. He died later that evening.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command center were notified at 4:10 p.m. that a crew member aboard the fishing vessel Blackhawk was having chest pains and going in and out of consciousness, according to a press release from the Coast Guard.

A rescue crew from Coast Guard Station Montauk arrived at the scene at 4:40 p.m. and transferred the man, who was not identified in the press release, to emergency medical services at Station Montauk. He was then transferred to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, East Hampton Town Police Captain Christopher Anderson confirmed.

Condolences to the man's family. Did the weather prevent the use of a Medevac chopper? Thank you to the USCG and all EMT services for taking good care of us.
