A single-engine Cessna airplane overshot the runway at Montauk Airport while attempting to make a landing on Saturday shortly before 6 p.m. After running off the runway, the plane broke through a fence and came to a stop on East Lake Drive.
The pilot, who was alone in the plane, was not injured. Montauk firefighters responded to the scene and sprayed flame-retardant foam on the wreckage.
This was the third accident at the small airport in the past year. Last fall, a plane overshot the runway, and in March 2009, a pilot and his instructor escaped injury when their plane burned after a crash landing at the strip.
We "expect better" from the comments...
The third time, he may not be so lucky.
Homes in Manhattan, AND East Hampton, eh?
