Firefighters respond to blaze in Hampton Bays

Jun 16, 2010 1:50 PM

Fire destroyed a bedroom in a Hampton Bays home on Sunday. No one was injured, according to authorities.

The fire started in the bedroom of the one-story home at 4 Wauhope Road shortly before noon on Sunday, according to Hampton Bays Fire Chief Stefan Borell. Firefighters had doused the blaze by about 1:30 p.m., he said.

Flames destroyed one bedroom, and there was smoke and water damage elsewhere in the house, Mr. Borell said. He said that an unknown number of residents were home when the blaze started, but all made it out unharmed.

Fifty-two members of the Hampton Bays Fire Department responded to the alarm, Mr. Borell said. The East Quogue and Southampton fire departments were also on hand.

The Southampton Town fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the blaze, Mr. Borell said. The fire marshal’s office did not return calls this week.
