Kabot Vote Count Will Not Be Available For A Week Following Southampton Supervisor Election

Nov 7, 2011 10:04 AM

Fans of former Republican Southampton Town Supervisor Linda Kabot, who launched a write-in campaign in this year’s election against sitting Independence Party member Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst, will have to wait a week or more to see how many votes the write-in campaign prompted for Ms. Kabot this coming Tuesday, according to the Suffolk County Board of Elections.

Anita Katz, the Democratic commissioner of the Suffolk County Board of Elections, said on Friday morning that write-in votes will be counted by hand along with absentee ballots beginning one week after Election Day. It’s not clear when the count, which will begin on November 15, will be completed.

But Ms. Kabot on Friday said she’ll still be able to get a sense of how she did in the election, because the BOE will have numbers on the total votes cast, the total number of votes garnered by Ms. Throne-Holst and the total number of write-in votes. Because she’s been waging an active write-in campaign, she said she’s going to assume she’ll get 98 percent of all the write-in votes that come in that night. “But there will be a few Mickey Mouses in there because there always is,” Ms. Kabot added.

Republican Deputy BOE Commissioner Bill Ellis confirmed Ms. Kabot’s information on Friday. Asked if it was safe to assume Ms. Kabot would get most of the write-in votes in Southampton Town, he said, “You’d have to ask Linda that. I’m only a bystander, but I understand she has ads in papers and so forth and so on.”

Also, Mr. Ellis said the BOE may decide to start counting the write-in votes the following Monday after Election Day. But both the Democratic and Republican election commissioners would have to agree to that, he said. “That hasn’t been decided yet,” he said.

Then, I suppose, the race wont be announced until the count is fully in?

You will know who won Election night-total votes cast minus ATH votes equals Linda's votes. Kabot victory.

If that is the case expect a thorough vote count. There will be a lot of scrutiny of the write in ballots.

Let's get Linda back where she belongs. Write in Linda Kabot in column 15.

I just got back from voting where the old lady running the thing was emphasizing " That the machine only recognized the bubble voting so be sure to fill in your bubble clearly" When I told her her assertion was misleading and designed to discourage people from the write in vote she just smiled at me smugly.
Go Linda! I am fed up with the building department since you left. They are running the place based on blind ideology and very little common sense.

Joe, you should contact Linda and provide her with detailed information, including polling place, election district, name of the women, her position at the polling place, time you were there, names of others who may have witnessed the event, etc. All such incidents should be reported to Linda. All such incidents should be reported so they may be collated and reported to the County and State Board of Elections.

For when Linda wins! My latest difficulty with the current administration is that the residents of Southampton Town are no longer allowed to speak to anyone in the depts of Housing, Community Development, and Building permits. The message you receive is that they will "call you back" (CD with specific times). This never happens. I did receive a letter 5 weeks after calling CD but I still have questions for them. How could this happen? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Linda.
