Car Shears Off Utility Pole At Wainscott Hess

Jul 15, 2011 11:14 AM

The driver of a car that knocked down a utility pole after colliding with another vehicle in front of the Wainscott Hess Station Thursday night was taken to Southampton Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Meghan Taylor, 28, of Amagansett complained of head and neck pain, according to East Hampton Town Police, after her car sheared off the utility pole, knocking out power to several hundred customers and forcing the gas station to close temporarily.

Police said the accident occurred at about 10:20 p.m. when Joseph Radano, 23, of Warren, Connecticut, was trying to turn left onto Montauk Highway from Georgica Drive. Police said Mr. Radano, who was driving a 2003 Saturn, did not see the westbound 2002 Saturn driven by Ms. Taylor.

She was taken to Southampton Hospital by Bridgehampton Fire Department ambulance.

Bridgehampton Fire Department police routed westbound traffic around the accident site. Eastbound traffic was slowed but not detoured.

Judging by the sheer number of accidents being reported and seen all over the east end this summer, it might make sense to direct everyone to this link http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/dmanual/default.html

It is to the NY State DMV Driver's Manual. Probably a good time for anyone with Jersey Plates or a share house to review.
