The Southampton Town Police Department swore in five police officers on Thursday, October 31: Asmir Brbutovic, Kesi Goree, Joseph Cappabianca, Joseph Marino and Mateusz Wrobel.

All five have previous law enforcement experience, and after completing their field training, they will join the rest of the police department.

“We’re very excited about the five new officers that we had sworn in yesterday,” Town Police Chief Steven Skrynecki said Friday. “We are really looking forward to increasing our force with their experiences and expertise. Two of them came from the NYPD with very high recommendations and very robust training and experience. Another two are part-timers who work for us.”

Officers Brbutovic and Cappabianca were both from the NYPD, and Officers Marino and Wrobel worked for Town Police part-time prior to being sworn in as full-time officers.

“We take great pleasure in being able to transition our own part-timers into a full-time position,” Chief Skrynecki said. “Our program works very well. It gives us an opportunity to get to know the individual, and the individual gets to know the department in a part-time capacity — and the two officers that are coming in from part-time have both exhibited very exemplary records as seasonal police officers, so we already know that were getting excellent police officers with them — and were delighted to give them the opportunity to join the force full time.”

Officer Goree worked for Southampton Village Police prior to joining the town force. “She is another female among our ranks, which is great — and to have another person from the Shinnecock Nation as a part of our forces is exciting for us. We know that she is going to bring with her a lot of knowledge to the force,” Chief Skrynecki said.

Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman agrees that all five officers will be great additions to the police force. “We’re very excited to welcome them to the team,” he said. “Their friends and family were there when they were sworn in, and it really was a great thing to see.”
