Stretch of County Road 39 Closed After Crash Brings Down Power Lines Onto Roadway

May 8, 2019 9:08 AM

County Road 39 in Southampton was closed Thursday morning, May 2, at around 11:30 a.m. until late afternoon due to fallen wires on the roadway from a vehicle rollover accident, according to Southampton Town Police.

The highway shut down from Magee Street to Sandy Hollow Road, a third of a mile stretch of road. Both directions were closed until 3:30 p.m., when one westbound lane and one eastbound lane were opened, Town Police Lieutenant Susan Ralph said.

The driver, identified as Tom McDowell, struck a utility pole on the westbound side of the road near Cisneros Tire Center and sustained a minor injury. No further information was provided by police about his identity.

No charges were filed, Lt. Ralph said.
